Selling your Home

There is no "h" in Joss. And while I agree with the general stupidity of the line, I think it was made far worse by Berry's dead-serious delivery of a flippant line.

I thought it was well known that most sexy Italians were just itching to move to Long Island. You cant stand that he has everything you want and is willing to give it away!

If you find Iguana irresistible and want to clean his rifle, no need to draw me into it. Simply ask the guy out. Why the big song and dance... :techman:

:p
In the past in this forum, we've had periodic uproars over inappropriate sexual remarks, and you were one of the posters whose complaints sparked the controversy. This is what Bonz posted on the subject:

- Let's ease off on the sexism. There are a number of females (and even some males,) who don't feel comfortable with it, enough that action was needed. Let's make sure that this is a place where everyone feels comfortable posting, OK? I'm not looking to squelch fun, by no means, I'm all for fun, but a little less "locker room" would be good. Think about what you say before you hit the post button. Would you say it in front of your Mom, or other woman you respect? (Remember too, sexism goes both ways, woman can cross a line too.)
Your post quoted above was not just "locker room," but was specifically directed at a fellow member and in bad taste according to the standards that Bonz has set in response to your complaints. Since you're obviously aware of all this, I'm giving you a Warning for trolling. Comments to PM, please.

You can tell unfunny jokes that don't involve the death of a fellow member.

RJDiogenes. That is bullshit.

He should've been warned for replying above the fucking quotebox like it was his email.

Yeah, I agree with him. Wait, no I don't. Damned if I do, damned if I don't. Ah, just go ahead and ban me for a week or two or what ever the policy is. I promise when I come back I'll be a good boy.

Holdfast, I thought about a property manager, but in these parts, they don't have very good reputations. All they do is get someone into the house who can (theoretically) pay the rent. They don't get rental references from former landlords - only a credit report.

As a result, there is a huge problem with renters destroying the homes they rent - sometimes even gutting a home and stealing the appliances, etc. And the property manager is not liable for any of that. As the owner, you simply have to come up with the money for new appliances, new carpets, etc for the next renter, replacing everything the first renter trashed or stole...

Do you guys have a problem in the UK with renters trashing your homes?

Sorry for only just now getting round to replying after almost a couple of weeks, but I didn't check the board while I was on holiday.

I'm sure it happens here too, but touch wood, I've been lucky so far. The property managers I use know the kind of tenant I want (professional singles/couples, no social housing, steady employment, good references, no undergraduates, etc, etc). I once accepted a post-doc student, but only after the agency vetted him a bit further by checking out his references in detail. Turned out his family were wealthy enough to be comfortable paying lump sum payments in advance for his rent, covering 6 months at a time, so no problems there and he ended up staying for a couple of years. At the end of the day, there's probably a luck of the draw element to all of this, though. But it can work out, potentially.

Interesting side note, another house in our development went on the market yesterday. The for sale sign is in the front yard but its not up on Realtor yet. Can't wait to see what their selling point will be, it was one of the first houses sold originally.

Unless that house is significantly different than yours, that's bad news. Just one more (presumably similar) house to compete with. And it'll either be higher priced than yours, and sit there, or the same/lower, giving more competition to something that was already hard enough. If they have more equity and are able to dump it for lower, also sets a bad comp for you, with a house in the development selling for lower than you want to accept...
