Seeking General Fan Fiction Advice

I'm in the process of writing a Star Trek crossover (TNG) fan fiction and I was just looking for general advice about some good do's and don'ts. I'm not knew to writing fan fiction, and I've watched various Trek series all my life, so I'm quite familiar with the Trek universe.

Uhhh, where to start? A good do: Finish your story completely before starting posting (you'll invariably have to go back to ealier parts and change them as new good ideas come along). Another good do: Get someone else to preview before posting (another pair of eyes will always catch things that have become - literally - invisible to you as you edit and re-edit countless times).

Apart from that, there is an entire library of "how to write" books lol. I'd say the Turkey City Lexicon is a nicely condensed list for starter writers, and is readily found with a Google search. SFWA also has regular interesting columns for SF writing.

Hope this helps!

What are you crossing TNG over with? To me, cross-overs are more often a -don't- than they are a -do-.

crossover
One of the things that I heavily dislike about crossovers is the inevitable scene where everyone introduces themselves and what they thing/organization is, to the other side of the crossover.

If this scene could be left out, so much the better.
