Anyway replacing Will with Tom wouldn,t work as the bridge of the flagship is no place for an impetous hothead(ASK RO). I know it is the same man essentialy with the same skills package but as Tom himself says hes in a hurry.Productionwise it wouldn,t work either.Tom Paris "bad boy" phase lasted all of 2 minutes, Tom Riker would've been toned down just as quick.To be honest,I think Frakes would have looked silly anyway.Don't get me wrong RIKER is my favourite ST character but even in season 1 I never bought Frakes' Riker as a careerist jerk.

I have studied anatomy and medicine preparing for nursing school. Believe me when I tell you that medicine is a completely different and an "uninterchangeable field" as the ones you mentioned above. It's a whole new ballgame in terms of learning, understanding, and application. And, most importantly, precision.
