Season two predictions!

F. King Daniel

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Post your predictions for season 2 here.

Mine is: Pike has a Red Angel experience and goes full-on Christian. Burnham remains the hardcore atheist and they butt heads when the angels tell them to do something. Pike wants unquestioning angel worship, Burnham wants to know why they want us to do it. It'll lead to Disco's "what does God need with a starship?" moment.

Also, the Red Angels are Iconians, but that's being discussed in detail in the Red Angel thread.

I think there's going to be a time jump at some point this season or maybe in the finale. How much of a time jump? I'm thinking they time travel to the 32nd century and can't get back... to make room in the 23rd for a Pike spinoff. The future Discovery seasons will be set in the far future.

This is not a prediction since there's no way this will happen, but if I was going for wish fulfillment and ties to the Bradbury story, 2x06 - The Sounds of Thunder would be about a paleontologist with connections high up on the Federation Council who convinces Starfleet to let Discovery take him 65 million years into the past to witness the meteorite that caused the mass extinction of the dinosaurs.

Seeing a group of herbivores he as studying from afar about to be wiped out by the approaching firestorm, the paleontologist, who has become attached to his subjects, uses Discovery's transporters to beam the creatures into the cargo bay, held in forcefield "cages".

At first incensed by what the scientist has done and ready to beam the dinosaurs back down to a different location, the Discovery crew reflects on their own recent experiences with the Red Angels relocating doomed humans and realizes they could have the same opportunity here, albeit without violating the Prime Directive since these are a non-sapient/sentient species.

In order to make sure there is no chance of ever encountering these creatures again, they remain in the past and jump to the far side of the galaxy, depositing the dinosaurs on an uninhabited but lush planet with similar conditions to the Earth of their time.

Discovery then returns to their own time and space, content that they have done a good deed and the hadrosaurs they just dropped off in the Delta Quadrant will never be heard from again.

i can't tell how funny you're being here. but i really hope the story goes in none of those directions. except for the star trek V love. the franchise needs to embrace that one.

if the red angels are pulled from the canon at all, i'd guess they're preservers, which i am all for. but i think there're going to end up being something new.

based on what kurtzman said yesterday at the TCA, i'm gonna safely predict we'll see some romulans by the end of the year. oh and the discovery crew will finally get those colorful "new" uniforms and people like me will be less annoyed.

1. I predict Spock and Burnham's falling out has something to do with the Red Angels.
2. I also predict the Red Angels will be to Discovery what the Firstborn are to 2001.
3. No matter what happens, I'll have sharp disagreements with some people about something or other.
