I go with the other line....
What if they had gone with Ezri from Season 1, would of been fun to have a green Ensign who just recently joined, untrained for the situation (Curzon died on the way back from a diplomatic mission, and Ezri was the only trill on board...), and by the end of the run Ezri being able to put lifetimes of memories together to be a leader and kicking some dominion rear.

^Funny--that's kinda what Behr and company said when all was said and done. "We should have done this Ezri thing from the beginning!"
But...we'd probably have had to see an actress other than our beloved Miss deBoer. She herself noted she at first wasn't interested in a role for DS9, in large part because her boyfriend--and you're going to love the irony of this--had auditioned for the role of Bashir, and was turned down....
Still--who knows? Maybe someone would have convinced her otherwise....
