I was surprised, frankly, because the whole "six seconds" thing and the shot of Picard/Locutus waiting are now gone. I always thought it was believable that the beam needed an extra few seconds to charge.. it's just another effective dramatic beat. I guess it worked fine for the purpose of an edit. I had a decent time. I enjoyed the gag reel,.
I really didn't like showing the documentary before the feature, as it kind of spoils it if I had brought in a friend who had never seen Best of Both Worlds, which I was going to do.

The event this time was much larger than last time around (I'd say at least double the seasons 1 and 2 attendances), but we encountered a few technical difficulties. The center channel kept going out, which meant the dialog was muted while the music and sound effects kept going. We also had some digital noise from the satellite feed right as Admiral Henson hailed the Enterprise from the middle of Wolf 359 (which was actually kinda funny how it synced together with the on-screen static from the battle damage).

There were lots of groans and a few people left early, but ultimately it affected probably less than 10 minutes of the 2 hour show and we were greeted by staff at the end who gave us free passes.

The theater I went to was *packed* - far better than the Season 2 event, which was maybe 20 people.

BOBW looked fantastic, especially the new effects. But did anyone feel like the scenes in the ready room and sickbay in Part 2 looked odd? Maybe it was just a lighting choice at the time, but they looked much less sharp and colorful than the rest of the episode.

That one had our crowd rolling, but Castillo's "I think maybe I'd like it better if you called me Dick" absolutely brought the house down.

I just got back from the event here in San Antonio, the theatre was packed. Yes the scene when Riker orders "Fire" is edited so it cuts right to the dish firing. They sweetened the explosion at the end of the episode. Also the phasers can really now be seen to change colors when they rotate their frequencies. The bloopers are hysterical. Good reactions from the crowd.

Had an absolute blast, some of the most fun I've ever had in a theater. I missed having the big dramatic music at the end of Part One (and I wouldn't have minded seeing the opening credits again on the big screen), but overall it was a very well done presentation.

I did find it a bit odd that they did the documentary before the feature, but seeing as this is an episode from 23 years ago, spoilers aren't too much of an issue.

I think the picture quality of the projection was better this time around, although I noticed a faint horizontal red bar that kept sweeping from the bottom of the screen to the top. It wasn't too distracting but I did notice it throughout the night.

The re-cut episode was great and really flowed well. Going straight to the deflector dish firing after Riker says "fire" was the right call. The lighting was a bit darker than I remember in some spots but it definitely added some nice atmosphere.

As for the upscaled three seconds, it seemed a lot more noticeable to me than the 13 seconds which were missing from Sins of the Father. Still, it was only three seconds so it's not really a big deal.

All in all I had a great time. Can't wait for the next screening in July!

I nearly choked on my soda! We had a great time. Totally packed theater, they opened up another screen due to demand. I'm gonna peruse Amazon for Season 3 right now.

Best movie experience I've had for a long time. The atmosphere was great, and hearing the sound track in the theater was just chilling at times. The blooper real was good for some laughs, and despite it being a packed theater, that annoyed me less than it usually does. Trekkies are more considerate than your average movie goers.

Just got back from my showing, really enjoyable. Sadly, far from a packed house, but it's also being shown across town. The only thing that would have made it better is if Oblivion wasn't being shown next door so in the quiet moments you could hear crazy explosions, etc. leaking over...

It confirmed what I think every TNG fan has long assumed, which is that BOBW would make an excellent movie, and it does

And, yes, loved the bloopers that were already called out here.

Packed house in a "mid size" stadium theater here in Miami. The previous two screenings were in smaller theaters.

Everything looked amazing. You can most definitely tell CBS D was back on this one. Night and day from season 2. The exterior shots, particularly of the admirals ship with the blue atmospheric haze reflecting off of it in orbit in the beginning was very cool and made the Repulse in season 2 look like crap.

Also, the beauty pass of the 4 footer first used in pt 2 which would essentially replace the older stock shot of the 6 footer from earlier in the series looks really nice in HD.

Anyone else notice CBS Ds latest transporter effect seemed a little different in the initial swipe stage before the sparkly part begins? Maybe it's just the the nature of the hd re-creation.

Borg interior looked amazing. Locutus makeup held up well, and I never noticed the spot on his head after they destroy the ship where the tubing was before. You couldn't see that in standard def.

My one beef with this whole experience was the edit from 1 to 2. I know they had to do it this way because of the music, but besides missing the end of Jones' theme, they cut that awesome part of the beginning of 2 where the deflector builds up and the look of total helplessness on the face of the crew that either A: they're not gonna make it out alive or B: they're about to kill their captain.

I still stand by what I said months ago. They should've done a s3 ep (take your pick of the many excellent ones) and part 1 fully intact. Then do part 2 fully intact for the next screening plus maybe Family to round it out. It would have been fun to recreate the waiting we all had to do that summer many years ago.

Overall though a great night!

This was awesome! This was the best attended event yet, slightly higher than the Menagerie at over 2/3rd full in the theater I went to. More than both STNG events so far. The crowd also seemed more lively and had more fun. I heard one guy remark he thought he'd know everyone there, but he didn't. My perception was that both the sound and the picture were the best yet.

I think the one thing that hurts BoBw when both parts are together is the re-use of footage of the Enterprise getting attacked at the end of part 2. It is all re-used footage from part 1. BoBw was the best of the TNG two parters, but one thing TNG never got right was part 2 usually sucked when compared to part 1. DS9 was better at pulling off multi episode arcs than TNG. One thing that would have been cool to show with BoBw would have been Family as a preview to the next season.

Just got back from the theater and I had an absolute blast. I think the last time I had this much fun was the night I went to see The Avengers. There is just something about going to a night showing with a packed theater and everyone has the same interests that you have. I even saw a friend from Church there and I talked with him before the show started. In a sense, I did end up going with some one. Some overall thoughts on the evening:

-Is Ira Behr trying to look like Iggy Pop, who is his idle? Man when did he decide to have a purple beard. At least the Glasses were still intact. I'm really looking forward to hearing what he has to say on the features because he was really genuine here and I agreed with nearly everything he said. I know he doesn't like the series, but without bashing the series, he was critical of it and had some well reasoned and great thoughts, especially about Picard being stuck in the mud.

-I really wish we had more Elizabeth Dennehy. What a great personality she was and she had some awesome stories to tell. I'm not going to buy the BOBW blu-ray set (I've seen the movie and I think I prefer the original version) but I would love to hear all of "Engaging the Borg", just to hear her. Again, Burnett and Ley Jr. are striking an awesome chord of features that make the original special features look amazingly bad.

-The work on the remastering here is extraordinary. I think it will look a lot better on an HD TV at home, but in the theater, I just loved the atmosphere. Again, like I said, you are there with other Star Trek fans. When you mention nerdy facts, other people understand you. Honestly, this is the closest thing I've come to actually going to a convention and it's just amazing.

-The gag reel was hilarious. I was saying to my friend I think I know where the TNG porn parody came from . The 3 sex jokes had the theater absolutely rolling.

-As for those who wish the feature was after the episode, I think I liked it better before. Granted, there are spoilers, but we're talking about an episode that was 23 years old. I just really liked how this feature talked about the episode in great detail, like the graveyard scene, or the possibility of Stewart leaving. Again, Dennehy was the real highlight here.

Looking forward to the Season 4 event. Tonight was amazing, and the theater wasn't sold out, but it was really full still. I guess my next experience with this will have to be May 16th when I see Star Trek Into Darkness.

It was very cool, but my theater had aspect ratio problems. The 16:9 parts of the documentary were squished into 4:3, and the 4:3 elements were squished into appx 3:4. I mentioned this to the customer service desk and they told me that, no, it was supposed to be this way. I'm glad to hear that other people did not have this issue.

I went with the old man tonight. We’d gone to the 2nd season one together and we both enjoyed so he decided to join me at this one. Had a great time, of course, though not as much so as the last one.

I thought the documentary was somehow less interesting than the previous ones were. I also wish they had shown it after the episode; it did spoil things, and not just for newbies. I also missed the conversation with the reunion panel of cast members. That was really something. I hope it returns for later events.

The event was also a bit of a sad reminder for me that I am in an apparently rather small minority of Trek fans for whom, well… “Best of Both Worlds” just doesn’t quite do it for me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great 2-parter, with some fantastic moments within. But it just doesn’t quite affect me on that gut level (unlike, say, “All Good Things”).

I think part of this is because I never experienced it as a cliff-hanger when I first saw it during TNG syndication time on TNN. For various reasons, I knew what happened before I saw the episode. So I never got the shock factor multiplied by four months waiting for the conclusion.

Anyway. I also think that BoBW doesn’t work so well as a feature-length episode. Echoing what Mott said, without the shock factor at the end of part 1 (I couldn’t believe they edited out half of that musical tag! Especially after Seth MacFarlane made a point about it during the documentary), the first half is a lot of exposition: a lot of talking, a lot of planning, a lot of meetings, a lot of verbal tension between Riker and Shelby (ha! and some “heat”! lol!). As my dad put it, it was good, but felt like a normal TNG episode. The second half really picked up though, which was great, but made you wish the whole thing could’ve moved at that pace. (And then you realize that they basically did exactly that with First Contact!)

In any case, there were still an awful lot of great moments (like Data’s facial expressions every time Shelby does something out-of-line!). It was very enjoyable, but I think they would’ve done better to include “Yesterday’s Enterprise,” and either BoBW Part 1, as Mott suggested, or something like “The Offspring,” or “The Most Toys” (that episode is effing intense; I rewatched it recently and realized that Data is a freaking boss in it; such a well-acted yet subtle power struggle), or even “The Defector”. I recently rewatched “The Defector,” as well, with a stereo sound system and realized that, for whatever reason, maybe it’s the music, it’s a total nailbiter. That warbird squaring off with the Enterprise at the beginning? Epic. Would’ve loved to see that on the big screen.

Absolutely loved the bloopers, as always.

Great time, despite all I’ve said here. I think they’re gonna do this for the remaining four seasons, which makes me very happy indeed.

Yup, that was pretty cool. I've seen this episode countless times by now, but that first battle between the Enterprise and Borg still gets my pulse pounding every time.

Although I have to say, as much as we've always thought this would make a great movie, the static direction and camera movement that was typical of the series DOES really stand out more on the big screen.

And I have to agree with those who felt the documentary beforehand slightly "spoiled" the event. Yeah, we've seen this episode many times before, but NOT on the big screen, and I was a bit annoyed that all the big moments were already shown on there by the time the ep actually started.
