I hate to say it, but it almost looks like the past that they’re going to is our present. Some variation that doesn’t have Khan or genetically engineered super people. Just regular humans being shitty to each other. And Picard is going to ride in and save the day. To be blunt, I’m not having high hopes for it. Sorry.
It isn't. The space program is more advanced (Q in one shot is wearing a outfit mentioning an Europa travel project, and that was also spotted on a bus advertisement in a set leak picture) and there's Sanctuary Districts mentioned on posters which were something from one of the DS9 time travel episodes where they went to 2024.

It seems that maybe they're looking to finally address how established Trek lore about the late 20th / early 21st centuries differs from actual history. Now they obviously want to make it resemble the actual present as much as possible...if the Eugenics Wars were supposed to have happened 30 years earlier, I don't know what sort of evidence you'd expect to see of that in a two-minute trailer.
I think it's like how much evidence of World War II would you still expect to see in 1975?
I think the time period is the period just after First Contact, fear of aliens and the like.
Clearly, they have nothing more story-relevant to show us in the trailer than somebody watching reruns of the Eugenics Wars equivalent of Hogan's Heroes.
Wasn't there a short scene in the trailer with a group of people, possibly vulcans, at night? (Ears were covered.)

It'll be later on in the 2020s. Maybe the 2030s tops. It looks to me like the want to visit Today but a little further along. Anything passed 10 years in either direction from Present Day and it's no longer really "Today". Once you get passed 20 years in either direction, then it generally moves into being a different period completely; and I really don't think that's what they're going for.

Won't it have to be some point in the first half of the 2020s? After all, it was established in DS9 Past Tense that the Bell Riots of fall 2024 led to a dramatic reevaluation of the Sanctuary Districts and ultimately to their shutdown. We clearly see the Sanctuary Districts are still running in this trailer.
Key word ultimately, while the districts were shutdown after the riots, there's no direct indication of the timeline for that.
However, I don't think that it's a coincidence that the collapse of the Sanctuary Districts took place around the same time as the beginning of the Third World War in '26.
Point taken, though it could also just as well take a few years to completely close all of them. Certain states might hold out. You know how Congress is; and also how much Governors vary from state-to-state. There's no such thing as consensus in the real 2020s. It is what is. All I'll say.
I don't think it's a stretch to say Sisko was possibly just giving Bashir a broad, thumbnail sketch of the 2020s as simple as 1, 2, 3.
