Season 2 Teaser

You mean, 'Beatles or Stones'. Elvis was a different generation and pretty much done by the time the Beatles hit,
The mid-fifties iteration of Elvis was done by the time of the Beatles.
But there's no way in Hell you can say that Elvis was "pretty much done" at any point, unless you are talking about the day he died!

I do wonder why they would send a lightly armed science vessel to that kind of mystery when you have a Connie right there?

Well, Discovery is the most advanced science vessel in the fleet. So even without the spore drive, Discovery still has better equipment than the old and worn Enterprise. Of course, that will only true until the Enterprise got refitted and received better equipment that comparable to Discovery. But maybe not. Maybe the Enterprise will never get the same level of equipment that Discovery has, because of their different role in the fleet.

Maybe Pike as the captain of Discovery won't be temporary, but permanent. And it's not violating the canon. As the canon stated that after Pike, the Enterprise will be commanded by Robert April. So maybe it's the time for the succession. Who know.

As we've seen in TOS, Connies can handle anything thrown at them. It is highly likely with periodic upgrades, the Enterprise is every bit as advanced as the Discovery, outside of the Spore Drive.

I think with Pike departure from the Enterprise, Robert April will come and replace him as the captain. It is not violating the canon; it's enforcing them.

Violating the timeline? No. Incredibly uncreative and continuing to make the universe seem smaller and smaller? Absolutely.

No, the poster is correct. Which was a more significant rock and roll pop culture phenomenon, Elvis or the Beatles, was one of those Kirk v Picard type questions (notice that Kirk and Picard were also different generations).

Violating the timeline is a 100% yes for this idea. Pike was not captain before April, April was the first captain of the Enterprise before Pike. Kirk specifically states that he personally took command of the Enterprise from Pike when Pike was promoted.

He can be on the Discovery for a while, no problem, but he eventually has to go back to the Enterprise.

I got the impression the poster meant that April would take command of the Enterprise again while Pike was away.

I guess that would be fine, though if Enterprise needs an interim Captain (for all we know, Enterprise just goes into drydock while he's away), I don't really see why April need be involved at all. Let Number One handle it.

But his original post pretty explicitly says that Pike could stay in command of Discovery permanently and it wouldn't be a timeline problem at all. That's just not true.

If Pike is popular, then he will end up staying. Which I don't have a problem with.

I don't, either, really. There are plenty of ways to do it that still allow him to hand command of the Enterprise to Kirk with plenty of time to spare (unless DSC is the longest running star trek show ever, which I doubt).

Or just admit that Discovery is its own thing and they're going to make decisions that are best for the show, regardless of whether it lines up or not.
