Season 2 Speculation Revived

Pike will definitely reference The Cage on STD.

All it takes is for the writers to Google it, and voila 'Easter Eggs' for the fans.

I can't see them avoiding that temptation with Pike as a series regular.

Maybe he still has nightmares of the Talosians, and they appear... looking 25% different.

This is reminding me too much of 1998's version of Psycho. Not a good thing to think back to.

In all honestly, if they are going so far as to recast the major characters of the bridge crew, they will have to have a scene or two sometime with the three of them on the Enterprise bridge. I wonder if we'll get an updated Yeoman Colt?

They did screw with his mind though. So experiences like this, could very well still haunt him.

Another prediction about Pike.

He's a Section 31 agent. They will obviously need a way to discredit Pike, so Burnham will be presented as the moral authority.

Perhaps Burnham convinces him to betray Section 31, and Section 31 finally finds a way to silence Pike a few years later

^ I can see him haunted by Hell. He seemed completely better by the end of "The Cage" but, in the interests of drama, I'll give you that one.

But I don't think they're going to discredit Pike. I know what you're going to say, "They'll discredit him because he's a Straight White Male"! They won't do that. Would I put it passed them to make Pike look flawed and imperfect? No, but not because of the reasons you think. Even with all of that considered though, I still don't think they'll do it, because...

... I think they want to show off how different Pike is from Lorca. They want the Discovery crew -- and the audience -- to see what it's like to have a Real Captain in command and not someone who was as messed up as Lorca.

Plus, while there are TOS (and Berman Era) fans who are turned off from this show, they don't want TOS Fans like me who are sticking up for the show to turn on them.

Pike doesn't need to be "discredited" in order to get rid of him at the end of the season. He'll just go back to the Enterprise. The End. Or not The End if there's a spin-off.

Id like him to be a valiant brave captain..

but annoying as hell for some reason. Maybe he hums all the time or eats smelly snacks or just asks people the same question over and over, but despite his successes, the bridge crew are all waving happily as he leaves at the end.

they won't do that. but i'd love that.

As far as I know, Jason Isaacs said after season 1 that he is no longer involved in Discovery. That's a pity I think, would have liked to experience the "original" Gabriel Lorca.
Last I saw, when asked if Lorca would be returning, he stated that he could not comment regarding his character coming back.

They need to work "Everybody Dance Now" into the season once Pike says "Hit it." What better to hit it with?

I figure he'll be somewhere between his depiction in The Cage and the Kelvin universe version. By the books and level-headed, a reasonable authority figure who is well liked by his crew. It's established that Spock was willing to risk his life to help him, something has to make Spock that passionate. Spock is emotional when it comes to his shipmates, even if he doesn't let them see it. But Pike could have been the father figure that he never really got in Sarek, with Pike actually showing an interest in his work and career and tried to nurture it. I expect Pike and Burnham to develop a bond over their mutual concern for Spock and maybe that's how he is with his crew. Like the old trope of the military leader who is a father to his men. In The Cage, Pike seems to be almost depressed after a battle where some of the crew died. Maybe it's due to him being so close to his crew, that any death has an impact on him.

Unoriginal and tired trope. "Hero is secretly evil". They already did that with Lorca, and that was used exactly for the purpose of propping up Burnham.

Pike will be the clean cut, by the book Captain we saw in The Cage. There's nothing nefarious about him.

I want Pike to be great again, that's fine.

The problem is you have a clean-cut heroic Captain.... Michael Burnham will be overshadowed and will lose her place as being the most righteous one. They'll have to do something with Pike to make him 'less' than Burnham in some way.

They can just pull an O'Brien. How many horrible things happened to the chief that he just brushed off. Spend over a decade tormented and starved in a mind prison? Well you're home now, Keiko needs someone to watch the kids tonight while she does science stuff.

Not if Pike believes in her and she has his blessing. Then she's been propped up and Pike's intact.

You're looking at it the wrong way. It's not Pike vs. Burnham. That's not the rivalry. It's Burnham vs. Spock as "siblings" and Burnham vs. Saru for the chain of command.

I don't think you cast 3 lead actors in supporting roles without some sort of plan to launch a series with them. Perhaps they could do a Short Trek episode with the Pike crew, basically a 20 minute episode, to test the waters before a proper announcement?

With all the excitement about Spock and Pike, I hope they don't forget about the Spore thing that landed and then went into Tilly. Maybe that's like a communication with the red dots, like how Kes communicated with Species 8472?
