Scrubs Plus Three

Saw this on TVGuide and thought that it would be good news for the SCRUBS fans:

TVGUIDE:
Dr. Cox is going to have three new souls to torture when Scrubs moves to ABC next season.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Betsy Beutler (The Black Donnellys), Eliza Coupe (HBO's 12 Miles of Bad Road) and Aziz Ansari (MTV's Human Giant) are joining the cast as Sacred Heart's newest interns. The trio will appear on a recurring basis.

The injection of new blood is part of an ambitious plan to return the show to its more drama-filled roots. To read about the other changes in store, check out my fresh Q&A with series creator Bill Lawrence (aka Da Man).

Trying to remember when it was a "drama". It's been a comedy, with an ability for a few serious moments, pretty much since the beginning, hasn't it?

Yes. And it has maintained that since the beginning, for the most part. I certainly hope ABC isn't taking the "com" out of the "sitcom" here.

It moved from witty storytelling to gags the last couple of seasons though. And amazing this show has gone every season with no cast changes. That's almost ridiculous considering the only comedy show I can think of that has been around for several years (that didn't revolve around a family) that did it was Friends.

Are ABC trying to run the show for longer than a 8th season or maybe trying to set the ground for a spinoff ?

It was originally comedy dipped in drama, but for a while now it's been comedy with a sprinkling of drama.

Maybe their planning on "ERing" it..by having most of the original cast move on and start with a new bunch under Dr.Cox as the lead character..that's if they do renew after this next season and the main cast doesn't stay on which is a good bet..I'm sure must of them are ready leave the show.

So basically, they're doing the New Doclings story from this season's House.

What about Friends?

Well they have compared this show to Grey's Anatomy in the past... I wonder if ABC will make them make it into a copy of it.

The pilot was markedly different than every other episode in terms of comedy/drama ratio.

Not sure about this. Wish NBC just let them complete the full season 7 and just wrap it up.
