Scotty's backstory - Pegg style!

That's really a rather nice little backstory, including the part about underage drinking and getting into bar fights over physic theory.

sorta explains someone willing to tell off a federation ambassador in front of the bridge crew.

There is something familiar about the comment about Prerera Theory (regarding photon torpedo detonation) In one of the many trek novels. anyone have any ideas? I have way to many books to look through to find it.

Soar Dude

I know in the book "Kobayashi Maru", Scotty used an arcane theory to damn near make it back to federation space. Something about the way Klingons wolfpack in threes for mutual shield support and there being a sweet spot that if you hit it just right... Apparently the Academy Cadre thought he'd pulled a Kirk. :)

That might be it.

That's certainly it. The idea was, Scotty knew that the academy's simulator would interpret what he did incorrectly (with the action being in his favor) because while the math of the act worked out in reality the theory did not hold up in real-world testing.
The officer that rakes Scotty over the coals for using a bad theory to trick the simulator throws down the paper that disproved it. And then stutters and stammers when he realizes that the paper was written by Scott himself when he was something like 17. (Scott was pulling the stunt to get cashiered out of command training anyway.) My opinion of Pegg has just skyrocketed. (It's my second favorite scene in Kobayashi Maru after the one of Sulu throwing paper airplanes.)

Felt him an excellent choice for one of my Trek faves Scoty and his blog just confirmed it! How great would it be if all Trek actors were fanboys/girls too?!?!?!? (of course the bickering over continuity and canon might bog down production efforts . . )
