Scotty has a tribble??

Controlled tribbles weren't developed until about 2270 in the original timeline, and even then they weren't entirely safe as they grew to massive sizes. Scotty has to feed the tribble at some point, but what could he possibly have fed it that wouldn't result in the usual problems with tribbles?

They are fine as long as you don't get them in water or feed them after midnight... or is that gremlins?

since he didnt have a lot of food he may not have been feeding it very much.
and any way there may have been some people who knew about the true nature of tribbles . who then would warn the new owners.
:p

Perhaps Scotty was feeding the Tribble, but only occaisionally...,

...to give the off-spring to Keenser to ingest...

That's why there was only one in the cage.

We all know Keenser doesn't eat much.

it only takes one Tribble to make another - actually a whole bunch more - they're hermaphroditic and born preggers. Doc McCoy indicated in TOS that would be a bit of a time saver!

Or asexual? one or the other.

Doesn't it take two tribbles to make a third?

Is it possible you never saw The Tribble With Tribbles or Trials and Tribble-Ations? Because McCoy's line "Near as I can tell, they're born pregnant. Which is quite a timesaver." is spoken in both episodes.

Yep. Precisely. They're like Mogwai. Feed one of the bastards and you've got a shitload of them 24 hours later.
