Scott Bakula has lead in NBC comedy pilot

He's got his own show! Assuming it survives pilot season.

Scott Bakula is set as the lead of NBC’ multicamera comedy pilot Table For Three (form. Daddy’s Girls). The project, written by Dana Klein and directed by Pam Fryman, centers on Pen (Christine Woods), a responsible, guarded, brilliant but emotionally challenged Harvard Medical School graduate who just returned from a stint with Doctors Without Borders to discover that her beloved dentist dad, Robert (Bakula), has become engaged to Pen’s high school classmate Holly (Nicky Whelan) – a 29-year-old bubbly blonde who happens to be the “mean girl” in high school.

Okay honestly that sounds awful.

Ugh. I was excited, until I read the synopsis. I like Scott, enjoy him in Quantum Leap & Enterprise. This will probably something I watch on Netflix.

Ugh...sounds awful and generic...and another failure for NBC.

TV shows aren't just about plot. If people fall in love with the characters, they'll keep watching. And when it comes to comedy, it doesn't hurt if it actually makes them laugh.

Have a little faith in Scott, guys.

Seriously, a plot synopsis doesn't really tell you much if the characters are well written and well played. Go back and read the synopsis of Men of a Certain Age (three old friends going through middle age together -- snore), and then look at what a quality, critically acclaimed (if low-rated) series that was.

That was on cable. Broadcast comedies always suck, okay, 95% of the time. Scott deserves better.

Pre-judging becomes very very easy when all there is to go on is one (long) sentence of actual description.

It's all in the execution. I can see this being badly done or well done. I mean, there are shows with the same basic idea as Friends but which were done really badly. Whereas Friends was done very well. Here's hoping that this is in the well-done category. Certainly, I think Scott has somewhat under-rated comedy chops.

Dana Klein, the writer/producer of the pilot, worked on Friends for a few years, so hopefully she still has some magic.

Scott is great with comedy! If the pilot is written well, and the actresses have good comedic timing and delivery, it might just run a while.

Agree with Bluedana, hard to tell from a few sentences. Scott seems to have done really well since Enterprise went off the air. I'm enjoying his after-Trek success: t.v. shows (where he's become an icon like Chuck), movies, etc. Pretty neat.

He's been on tonight's Desperate Housewives and he actually reminds me a lot of Archer's holier than thou moments.

I always liked Mr. Bakula and hope the new show will be a success for him. He was great on Desperate Housewifes. Come to think of it that Bree character would make a nice Vulcan lady.

Sounds like budget and flexibility will be the main selling point for a network. Start with three main cast members, not tied to a location, the direction the show takes is flexible. It will all depend on chemistry between the cast and connection to the audience.
