This is a genre which intends to get a wider audience by combining the two genres sci-fi and romance or even romantic comedy.

A couple examples are
The Lake House (2006) Starring Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

In Time(2011) which was originally titled 'I'm.Mortal' by dir. Andrew Niccol Starring: Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried and Cillian Murphy

in development: an adaptation of the upcoming young adult sci-fi romance novel Through to You by Emily Hainsworth.
from the same filmmakers who made Like Crazy director Drake Doremus, co-writer Ben York Jones and producer Jonathan Schwartz
Through to You isn’t scheduled for release until Fall 2012 and will be published by HarperCollins.
There are a few films coming out that have a similar themes to Through to You such as Another Earth and Upside Down,

Sure Back To The Future had major love story/romance aspects to it so did Wall-E, The Fifth Element, and The Adjustment Bureau, Armageddon.

As far as television you would say Defying Gravity (2009) was a soap opera set in space so it would be a scifi romance genre.

What do you guys think of the scifi-romance genre specifically in films and TV (not novels)?

I think In Time and Upside Down will both big decent box office films based on the lead actors in them.

Well I sometimes get the feeling I'm the only Farscape fan who could take or leave the Crichton/Aeryn romance, which was pretty integral to the show.

And I thought Avatar did a pretty okay job with its romance. Of my favourite sci-fi films generally, Solaris and Metropolis have a strong what could be called romantic component (although I think the word 'relationship' is more appropriate for the Tarkovsky film). Offhand I'd say my favourite sci-fi romantic couple would be the incredibly obvious choice of the Han/Leia pairing, who really work in Empire.

Mostly I'm not interested in the romance 'genre' in the sense of Hollywood films or soap operas, though. Adding a fantastical element to it, like The Lake House, isn't going to make me any more likely to fork over cash to see the thing.

I did try Defying Gravity, and I did dislike it, for what that's worth.

How about "The Time Traveler's Wife" starring Nero?

Good choice! Love the book, the movie not so much though. I wish the movie would have played up on the Sci-Fi aspect, rather it came off more as a romantic drama with hints of sci-fi, and I found both equally important in the book.

How about Nicholas Meyer's Time After Time? Woman played by Mary Steenburgen is woo'd by H.G Wells as he travels to the future to pursue Jack The Ripper. Love that movie!

Also, let's not forget Back to the Future Part 3 where Doc falls in love with Clara.
