One of the reasons that I LOVE Trek is that it does such a good job in blending SCIENCE and fiction, I have worked up at NASA/AMES Research Center in Mountain View, Ca and have admired the way that the writers made sure that even though it is fiction, they wove many aspects of real SCIENCE into scripts. From Gravity Deck Plateing, to Matter/Anti-Matter blending in the warp-core, to the amounts of anti-matter needed in the wepons systems, all the way to the geography of the Milky Galaxy, Geodesic Folds, Wormholes, Nebula types, Quantom Singlarities, Warp Speed Factors that you would need to traverse the vastness of getting through the galaxy.
I also love the FICTION of Trek, One cannot say for sure that there is a planet that would resemble Vulcan, The Borg, The Klingon Empire, The Wormhole Aliens, Risa, Trills being hosts to slugs that have had previous lives and hosts. The FICTION of Trek is also totally great, and when you blend both aspects of Trek, both the SCIENCE and the FICTION in my view it makes for a totally winning combination.
What aspect of Trek work for you my fellow Trek BBS'ers...
