SCI-FI Channel to air GUNDAM 00

Well, a lot of the anime fans here have already seen it. There was a running thread for season 1 a while back. I'm watching it dubbed anyway though, for a second viewing. I always seem to miss some things anyway so a rewatch was in order. It's odd though as I'm simultaniously watching season II.

I'm glad to see that they started airing the show. I'll probably take a pass on watching the Sci-Fi airing though as I've already seen the first season 4 times lol.

Question from a mild Gundan Fan who's favorite Univse is UC; and I really liked 0083 Stardust Memory for the most part:

Is Gundam OO a UC universe series (ie does someone ever look back 100 to 200 myears and see that the Humans had Gundam mech previously); or YET ANOTHER seperate Gundam Universe unto itself?

One thing that really bothered me about this series was the sound track. Other than DAYBREAK'S BELL, it's kind of uninspired. Usually Gundam is big with the music.

This show could really use some Yuki!

Its a new Gundam universe that is actually based on our current timeline, except a couple hundred years in the future and the timeline is under the current BC/AD system we use. Its essentially a "what if" Gundam where the Americas (and possibly Japan) have formed a super-nation called the Union, the European Union has evolved into an actual nation and China and Russia have joined forces to create the Human Reform League. Many current issues (such as middle-easter terrorism and terrorism in Ireland) play a role in the story line, giving it a different feel from other Gundam shows.

Some Kajiura definitely couldn't hurt. Although, I'd personally have to say the second opening is actually the better of the two. :techman:

It's an alternate universe (or at least hasn't revealed anything to suggest otherwise). The last thing made from the UC timeline was Victory Gundam I believe, which was a long while ago. UC is pretty much done with. They had 7 series and 3 feature films though so it's not like it got slighted. (I still have to watch the rest of ZZ and V though so I couldn't say for certain.)

The last major traditionally animated UC project was the 08th MS team, although chronologically in the UC timeline it's Victory Gundam. Apparentally G-saviour (A live-action TV movie) is intended to also be from the UC timeline, but it's mostly ignored. I think there's been or two CGI Oavs released recently, and also UC remains a popular subject in the games.

Gundam 00 has drawn some comparisons to "Gundam Wing" apparentally...

Yeah, Gundam iGloo apparently takes place during the UC timeline and that came out 2 or 3 years ago from what i remember.

As to Gundam 00, alot of people do compare it to Gundam Wing but I really dont see why. They're really not that similar.

The comparisons between Gundam 00 and Gundam Wing are mainly due to both featuring a team of "pretty boy" Gundam pilots sent from space to Earth to end any conficts by kicking the crap out of everybody they meet. It's not an entirely accurate description of both shows, but I think some people draw more upon the similarities than the differences...

The latest episode of season 2 was ammusing because Tieria's caught flak for looking like a girl:
but in episode 8 they actually dressed him up as a girl for cover in order to infiltrate a a party. I'm rather disturbed to admit he made a pretty hot woman. Marina Ishmail's title of hottest Gundam chick still stands though.

I only started watching the series on Sci-Fi but from what Ive stumbled upon lurking around anime forums
isnt Tierra supposed to be some kind of sex-changing artificial human?

Well, he's
artifical at least, that part's right. As far as I know he's all male, but as I mentioned above they did dress him up as a woman once to have him sneak into a party.

The english dub is throwing me off a bit, but its nice to see it on American TV.

As noted above, the music doesn't seem to match the tone of the show. Usually the composers do a good job with the music, but this is one case where I would recommend ripping tracks off of other soundtracks and replacing most of the music.

The only VA I have an issue with is Feldt. She sounds too... upbeat for my tastes.

It's definitely different, but for the most part I think it's okay. I would have prefered accents to better make a distinction between the different nationalities. In other Gundams it wasn't important, but in this one I think it is, because there's more of an emphasis on multi-national co-operation.
