First two rows are based on the drawings on my website, then there are several based on the book "Starfleet Prototype" and a couple modifications of Neale's drawings, like the Fed CVA from Starfleet Battles modified to more accurately reflect the mini. The Chandley is just a modification with the Reliant hull.

The idea was to create a testbed for cheaper alternative to the Constitution refit project. A series of trials would prove the design less than optimal and the Enterprise's design far superior.

A definite improvement over the several years old sketch linked above.
Although I probably would make the nacelles more primitive (integrating TOS shapes) and use Andrew Probert's more enclosed version of the torpedo launchers.

The New London class is really neat, though I would use a full saucer to give room for crew accommodations.

Now I always thought that this design would make a better transport ship for a line of smaller containers:

Now imagine that the primary hull also has a Reliant type laminated hull joining its high back--only not as wide. This structure tapers into something like the Napoleon but raised a bit higher, like a Space 1999 Eagle. The cannisters are underslung, with perhaps a bottom ridge connecting them allowing this ship higher sppeds and more violent maneuvers compared to most cargo vessels. The Aft is very like a huge DY-500, but with three impulse decks stacked atop each other, and instead of vanes to either side, you have two pair of warp drives.

These are very uncluttered designs. The nacelle supports of the second trail off nicely, and the Chandley looks great as well. Both designs are understated and not over greebled. I know Vance is tired of scaled up Refit saucers, but one without phaser banks except for the lower front pair might look elegant.

Yes, that look is extremly strange-looking (and not in a good way). But with my "mission statement" being "odd", the challenge to try and make this work with TOS-components, fitted the bill really good.

But from an standpoint of realistic desgn, the mated nacelles (side by side), which i first encountered in Jackill's works, makes more sense.

The New London class is really neat, though I would use a full saucer to give room for crew accommodations.

A bigger saucer i tried, but i did not find a good looking position aft of the secondary hull. In the end, this would have ended in a conventional craft with two secondary hulls.
Apart from being not "odd", that had been done before multiple times. So i went for the star destroyer look instead.

I think Gloire makes best use of the command saucer hull extension.

It looks best--not atop a standard secondary hull--but trailing off into one all its own, or in front of one...

Actually, i don't think so. It's big and can carry a lot of stuff. But because of it's great mass the maneuverability and reaction time at impulse speed sucks and it needs four warp nacelles, carefully balanced to each other, to get a useable performance at warp speed. The armaments are not heavier as any mid sized cruiser, so i wouldn't want to get into a shootout in this ship, probably every smaller vessel can outmaneuver it and stay in the weak areas of the armaments while casually filleting the sucker.
