Schematics made with Vance's toolkit

Nope, at last my images are definetly .png s.

@Eliyahu: It seems, that you upscaled the Daedalus primary hull, which of course creates problems with window size and deck height (as indicated by the windows).

I personally are not a friend of scaling components, if a smaller version of some component is needed, i create it from scratch, if needed (Some of my designs feature a smaller deflector/sensor dish, that with the exception of the spike is completely selfmade) or modify an existing piece. In this case, i would have mated the Deadalus bridge to the other spherical hull (which is from Aridas' Horizon) and probably lose some of the windows from that hull. Or one could go with the Daedalus class hull and make the other components smaller by shortening them, the nacelles are particularly suited for that.

Also there seem to be no impulse/sublight engines.

yep my ship is also in .png format

What OS and IE is you using Darkwing Duck (awsome name there that show was Awsome :D )

Yeah, I realized the problems caused right after I posted it. But at least this gives a rough idea of what it will look like when I'm finished. Thanks for the tips!

Well, crap! Back to the drawing board! lol

Ok, here we go again. I think I've got the scaling issues resolved (thanks, Sean!) and added in a rough impulse engine, which I will likely refine in further drafts. I'm still not thrilled with the look of the Daedelus nacelles and will probably redesign them myself at some point. Thanks for the feedback!

XP and MSN9. And when I click on an in line image, it will only offer me GIF or BITMAP, both of which a re 1 x 1 images...

Sean and Kaiser are the only two I'm having trouble with, and then only here...I had no trouble saving your pics from your link, Sean...

hmmm i dont know then cus i use Internet Explorer 7

and have Win XP service pack 2

or maybe has something to do with Photobucket

Here is something that is in the making for some time, this project is actually what got me starting on seriously doing schematics with the toolkit.

Some time ago i stumbled on a titlescreen for a small video with Gabe Koerners Sotl reimagined Enterprise on a drawing by Matt Jeffries, that i hadn't seen in any of the books featuring the design process.

inspiration.png

I played around with that design, and soon did a slightly pre TOS version of it (which i linked in one of the Vance's Schematics threads), but not really could thing on a reason for that kind of design in the 22nd century. The big spherical engineering hull looked much too primitive for that era, which led me to merging this design into an ongoing project since mid-2001, when, after seeing the NX-01 Enterprise for the first time and finding that ship look much to sleek and modern for Earth's first deep space explorer. Since then i am fiddling around with more primitive looking Daedalus derivates, at least until this new sketch by MJ surfaced.

So for me this design represents Earth's first generation of matter/antimatter-powered vessels and i started to sketch out the evolution from the first M/A ship put into service to Daedalus.

DISCLAIMER: The content on this post completely ignores the series Star Trek Enterprise or the works, other peole have done developing the pre Daedalus era. If you don't like this concept, please just pretend that i didn't post anything of this.

Dauntless class deep space explorer

Build from 2122 to 2126 in five units, the Dauntless were Earth's first ship powered by a matter/antimatter reactor. Fielded by the UESPA (United Earth Space Probe Agency), their performance was hindered by theis small internal volume, which seriously limited their range.

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Dauntless.png

Fearless class destroyer

When the new generation of vessels were developed, the United Earth's Military raised concerns of protecting the many new colonies, that would follow soon with the horizon of earth's influence expanding with the faster and larger starships, which could not be done by the older fusion-powered warships.
So the third hull of the intended six Dauntless class vessels was converted into a the first of a new generation of warships and lauched in 2124 (the same year, that ENC-02 Faithful was launched). Further vessels of this class were planned to be constructed after the other Dauntless class explorers were build, but at that time design work on the next class of explorers was almost finished and it was decided to take advantage of the larger components of that design.

The ships weapons consist of six laser turrets and seven missiles in an external pod, as it was deemed to dangerous to put thermonulear warheads or the planned antimatter warheads into the hull.

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Fearless.png

Columbia class deep space explorer

Essentially a scaled up Dauntless, the twelve ships of this class, build from 2127 to 2131 fulfilled all expectations.

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Columbia.png

Valiant class destroyer

Based on the Columbia class explorer, the eight ships of this class, launched between 2127 ans 2131, also served admirably. Two ships of this class (ECN-21 Intrepid and ECN-26 Stalwart) are attributed with the first kill of the romulan war.

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Valiant.png

Odysseus class deep space explorer

Of the eight units ordered, only five were build in 2132 and 2133, while the final three were used to test a new reactor placement and were launched as Aeneas class ships.

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Odysseus.png

Aeneas class deep space explorer

A further upscaling of the proven M/A reactor placement, which was inevitable with the projected ship development in the next five years, would have led to a further upscaling of the spherical engineering hull, which was not found desireable because of warp field simulations. A task force was formed to evaluate new designs for the reactor placement. It was found, that the best results were to be achieved by changing from a vertical to an horizontal placement of the reactor core, which allowed use of a cylindrical hull, with the sublight engines arranged radially around the reactor ejection port at the center.
Construction was halted on the last three of the intended eight ships of the Odysseus class and those vessels were completed with a new engineering hull testing the results.

Aeneas was launched in 2135 with her two sisters following in 2136.

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Aeneas.png

Resolution class cruiser

The Resolution class miltary cruiser, a upgunner variant of the Odysseus class explorer, entered UESF (United Earth Spaceforce) service in 2134. The eight ships launched till 2137 are the last ships to feature the spherical engineering hull as well as the "pulsor" sublight drive.

One of the new features of this class is the incorporation of the ships missile tubes into the main hull, a developement made possible by improvement of radiation containment and the realisation, that antimatter warheads will not enter service for at least fifty years. It is the first time, that a loading mechanism is applied to the missile launchers.

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Resolution.png

Excellent class deep space explorer

The six vessels of this class, which entered service in 2138 and 2139 were the first equipped with an advanced sublight drive nicknamed the "impulse drive".

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Excellent.png

Perseus class deep space explorer

The Perseus class further refines the lines of the explorer type vessels, a larger spherical hull is added and hangar capacity is improved by putting the hangar in the larger diameter engineering hull.

Six ships were build in 2140 and 2141.

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Perseus.png

Dreadnought class battlecruiser

The six Dreadnouht class battlecruisers build from 2143 to 2145 were the first to utilize a triple nacelle arrangement.
Although they were only armed with the same caliber laser turrets as all other ships of their generation and lack heavier artillery, they served with destinction and it is in their honor, that three-nacelled warships of later generations are referred to as "dreadnoughts".

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Dreadnought.png

Inazuma class destroyer

The ten Inazumas, launched between 2142 and 2144 were the last to feature the cylindrical primary hull.

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Inazuma.png

Magellan class explorer

The three ships of this class, which were build in 2146, tried to mate the spherical main hull to the cylindrical engineering section and essential reversed the configuration of their ancestors. This arrangement created unforseen warp field turbulence at high warp velocities which could not be overcome at that era, the vessels were put into service nontheless and their performance was hindered by their capped maximum speed.

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Magellan.png

Europa class battleship

The six ships of the Europa class build from 2147 to 2150 were equipped with the heavy artillery that the Dreadnought class lacked and carried on their sides simple missile tubes launching large thermonuclear missiles for attacks on stationary targets and orbit-to-ground bombardment. Those battlewagons were the biggest, most heavily armed vessels build before the outbreak of the romulan war.
They were the first ships to be equipped with an hangar deck with horizontal entry on the lower engineering hull's rear plate, an arrangement that would soon become standard.

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Europa.png

Adamant class cruiser

The Adamant cruiser, of which ten ships entered service between 2147 and 2150 were the first to use a much improved engine configuration for both warp reactor and impulse drive. A much more compact warp core was again placed in vertical arragement in the forward section of the secondary hull and the new impulse drives, also being much more compact than the previous ones, allowed a hangar with horizontal access to be installed.

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Adamant.png

Vespucci class explorer

Build as a refinement of the Magellan design, it was hoped that the changes made to the Vespucci's design would solve the warp turbulence problem of the Magellan. This was not the case and the order of nine ships was cut short, the four ships build in 2150 and 2151 were equally hindered as their precedessors.

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Vespucci.png

Nansen class explorer

The five ships of the Vespucci class not build were build to a new design following the more traditional design of the Perseus class. The secondary hull was lowered in relation to their precedessors, an arragement which had shown promise in warp field simulations. The five ships were launched in 2151 and 2152 and served well.

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Nansen.png

Bucentaure class battlecruiser

Eight ships of this class entered service in 2152 and 2153 to augment the UESF with a battlecruiser carrying heavy artillery.

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Bucentaure.png

Advantage class destroyer

The boxy and unelegant destroyer of the Advantage class was the first to introduce the single hull/single nacelle arrangement, that would become standard on its successors.

Twelve ships of this class were build from 2153 to 2155.

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Advantage.png

Minerva class exploration cruiser

The Minerva class was the first exploration cruiser, a type of ship meant to function as an explorer in peacetime but being armed enough to function as a light warship in time of war.

Nine ships were build from 2153 to 2155, when the design was dropped for the slightly larger Daedalus class.

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_Minerva.png

Daedalus class exploration cruiser

Shown here as build with the more primitive armament of that era.

Great work, Sean! That same sketch has been stuck in my head for some time now, but I could never come up with a good reason for the configuration (apart from the fact that I thought it looked cool! *L*). Very nice lineage, I am very impressed. And twice as hesitant to tackle that configuration myself ;)

M/A driven Prototype

Schematic_PreFed_Earth_AX1.png

@EliyahuQeoni You shouldn't be hesitant to tackle that one just because i did, the Star Trek universe is most certainly big enough for more variants. ;)

Even though I sit on the fence re: ENT, I like your designs.

I had originally thought that the DY-seres of spacecraft were more involved in the evolution of Earth starships than post-TNG-era Bermanian TREK seemed to allow; I did not see the Phoenix in "First Contact" as a contradiction of this. In fact, about 15 years ago, I drew (in pencil) a design lineage with the early warp starships' secondary hulls being an offshoot of the "DYellow Submarine" shape, and the "conning tower" fin became the connection to the saucer. I'll have to dig those old papers out and dust them off.

Who isn't on the fence with enterprise? ;) And i'm certainly realist enough to know that a show, with a production design looking much older than the design of a 35 year old show would be seriously ridiculed and not given a chance to impress outside of hardcore-fans of the old stuff.
Also I'm intersted to see your ideas on the development of the classic Enterpise. Your lineage probably does not include the Daedalus design (which i really like, so i had to include it ;))?
Furthermore i can see the DY-ships evolve into my Dauntless, the arrangement with a cylindrical habitable section in front of (and seperated from) the engineering hull is not that different. :D This i actually not thought about, i just had that fascinating design and wanted to evolve it into the classical Daedalus, funny how, now, that you reminded my of the DY, it fits so well together, the "tower" evolving into the bridge dome.

Found a way to make the design workable in the 23rd century ;).

Class 314 Starliner

The front section, containing the passenger areas is a fully functional sublight ship and can detach and land.

Cool idea there Sean :D

and did anyone solve Darkwing's saving problem cus i dont know why its doing that for him  thought if no-one can help let me know

This is why i did put the links to the photobucket-albums up. I conversed with someonr having the same problem some time ago, and for him that worked.
