You like the technology of Star Trek? If so, did you ever stare at starship blueprints/schematics/deck plans/fleet charts for so long, that you would know the deck layouts even if someone wakes you up in the middle of the night?

^ Funny you should mention that. I was working on the cutaway a little this morning. :rommie: But don't get to excited. This thing is huge complicated monster so it may be a while before it goes online.

Good Thread! Theres a couple of sites listed above I haven't come across before.

My personal fave for ship size comparisons is http://www.merzo.net. Its not just Star Trek but pretty much anything else you can think of. Internet explorer is needed to drag the images around but other browsers work just as well.

Does anyone know if anyone ever updated that volumetrics chart thing to include all of the "canon" Trek ships?

IIRC, we're missing the Federation Centaur, Challenger, Cheyenne, Olympic, Raven, and Sydney; also the Klingon Negh'Var-class, Cardassian Keldon-class and whatever the smaller Cardassian frigate is.

And now that we have dimensions from the books for the USS Aventine from the "Destiny" trilogy and Luna-class from the Titan series, as well as fairly decent orthographic views of each, I didn't know if anyone could plug those numbers in as well.

Way beyond my skill set, but it stands to reason that there are some tech guys who can rip that off with the ease of a dirty joke.
 
All my ship schematics show dimensions, mass, and year of launch (or deployment in the case of shuttles) at the bottom. And, while the lengths given at EAS are mostly right, a few are off a little or a lot, especially for the Relativity, where I used the figure from Rick Sternbach's drawing, and EAS has never corrected the inlfated figure of 335 m. For some small craft, I was able to calculate dimensions based on those of parts listed in the auction catalog (both the console and the seats in the case of the inspection pod from ENT). With many sites on the Web it's much worse. For the Reman Scopion, one site shows length of 20 meters, another shows 4, and EAS puts it at 7, but I measured it out based on the known size of the canopy (from an F-18 Hornet but mounted backwards and angled) and got 16.5 feet (5.03 m) give or take 3 inches for inaccuracy of blueprints.

Thanks for the info on mass and size figures, LCARS 24; will have to take a closer look at your pages again when I have more time!
 
Blueprints are really the best way to learn about starship layout, you can't see enough detail in the show itself. They didn't have HD back there in 60's/80's, and in some cases, the starship is only a blurry glowing figure on the screen (remember some of the early Enterprise-D distance shots).
 
Might as well point out that Jaynz is slowly-but-surely getting back up. jaynz.trekships.org is the new site, thanks to Bernd's generous offer of hosting.
