Scents -for men.

In this thread RoJoHen openly admitted to not just using but even liking (the scent of) Old Spice.

Having never heard anyone under the age of fourty exclaim that they even knew the name of that brand made me wonder.

If you're a guy and you feel the need to wear perfume, what kind (or indeed: brand) would you prefer? -and why?

Personally I try to have as few perfumed products in my life as it is humanly possible (detergent, dish washing liquid, soap (I don't use shampoo!) and I would never-ever have any "room deodorizer" -that's just asking for trouble!).

For under-arm use I picked up the wrong stuff last time -why do they put the deodorized stuff in a container similar to the un-deodorized stuff?- so presently I do smell a bit like mild soap
Normally I'd use an anti-perspirant without perfume.

I'm a fan of Old Spice myself.
I prefer it over just about any other cologne available today.

Old Spice isn't my preferred brand, but I have bought it on occasion. I'm surprised you don't know it, it's advertised pretty heavily here. And it's probably one of the most common brands on the shelf.

When I was very young (maybe even 5 years old), I always recognised O Fortuna from "Carmina Burana" as "The music from the Old Spice ad." Plus, my dad kept some Old Spice in the bathroom.


Me, I've never had to use fragrances pour homme for any one particular moment. [And you're still single. Go figure. - someone] I rely on good old antiperspirant deodorant, and some standard shower gel and shampoo to wash away the night and get ready for a refreshing day at work. (Of course, I'd only end up getting filthy at work again.)

OK, here's the deal: back when I was a 'teen' and started smelling 'bad' Old Spice was a grandfather-scent.

Being gay I had a somewhat different relationship with the girls than most of the other guys and we (the girls and I) would laugh our asses off at the guys trying to smell exactly like their fathers and/or grandfathers… In those days the first thing you noticed about a guy getting a girl-friend was that he stopped wearing Old Spice

But apparently that particular scent has had a come-back. I never knew scents jumped a generation or two every now and then! -Tell me, do Girls these days smell like jasmine?

Well, retro is in, and that includes Old Spice, which has managed to make itself a newer image. The only downside, to me anyway, is that Old Spice no longer comes in glass bottles.

I do think it's kind of bizarre that you've missed the Old Spice train, trekkiedane. I know that it used to be an old man scent, but it's advertised like crazy these days, and they've expanded into a variety of different scents, uses (sports, everyday use, etc), bodyspray (like Axe or Tag), and they even make bodywash and shampoo. There are commercials on all the time.

I have a feeling that even the "original" scent has been updated for this generation. In fact, having lived with over 10 different guys (all my age: early 20s) over the course of the last 6 years, I can honestly say that all but 2 used Old Spice as their brand of choice.

I use Axe shower gel, and Old Spice Red Zone deodorant.

And on the rare occasion when I wear cologne, it's Cool Water.

Just to clarify, as I have discovered by looking, Old Spice after shave is in a plastic bottle, Old Spice Cologne is in a glass bottle. Carry on.

I think that might be it; while the brand-name might be the same nothing looks, tastes, feels, smells or is the same size it used to be - heck, I even remember a time where Coca only had one cola!
