Scenes that were unintentionally funny

I think that the point was that Kirk would not fight back -- that he would not harm children, this revealing that they were as bad as their "grups."

My favorite is when McCoy ducks the blow from Elias Sandoval and gut-punches him in return, all without spilling his drink.

I consider these quirky moments part of the charm of Trek. They are an inescapable by-product of any aged production. It's all relative though. For me, the children of Miri beating a diseased Kirk was not one of these moments. Not even Khan drew Kirk's blood in TOS (that I recall). Those brats! :scream:

Agreed. And he'd have come off pretty poorly if he did whip their asses. His only choices were to take it as a means to his end (which worked), or to run away. Fighting children, even if they were hundreds of years old, was never an option.

Gosh, I wasn't trying to ferret out the deeper psycological subtext of the scene...I just thought kids kicking Kirk's a$$ was funny. :-)

For sure there was an element of humor to that scene regardless of the reasons put forth.

from Devil in the Dark:

Spock: silence while initiating mind meld then....AAAAHHHH!!!......PAIN!
