Scanning... Quick ST3 Question

In TSFS, there is a scene as such....

"Scanning... indications negative at this time."
-Kirk, Sulu, and Scotty look toward the source of the voice.
"Well, did I get it right?" -- Dr. McCoy

Was the voice heard offscreen that of Nimoy or Kelly? I've always wondered this every time I watch the movie. Most the time, I come to the conclusion that it is Nimoy's voice.

Anyone know for sure?

It's Nimoy.

Similarly, when Kirk goes to investigate who's broken into Spock's quarters, he hears Spock's (Nimoy's) voice in the shadows only to find Bones in his chair.

Yes, the mind-meld changed the vocal cords and diaphram of McCoy allowing him to speak in Spock's EXACT voice & of course still be able to speak in his own voice as well.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

It's dramatic license, for heaven's sake.

Dramatic license that makes no sense.

To have McCoy mimicing Spock word's would have been spooky enough.

To have and clearly SHOW the crew reacting to Nimoy's voice is just dumb. He's going back and forth for his own voice to Nimoy's /Spock's in the cabin for goodness sake. It's ridiculous and unnessessary.

They cut a really good Kirk/McCoy scene from the movie because 'it gave too much away' (McCoy's odd behavior) and then two scenes later they have him talking with Nimoy's voice!!
So I guess they were saving the surprise for 3 minutes later.

Dramatic license that makes no sense.

That's what makes it dramatic license.
Why do people have to take things so literally??
There's a thread in the TOS board in which people are parsing Kirk's age based on stardates that were intentionally meaningless!

Didn't any Trekies ever go to the theater?

Sometimes I wonder if kids have imaginations anymore.
It's obvious dramatic license so that the audience can see the duality of McCoy at that point in the movie. To take it literally just sucks the power from it.

anytime you watch a movie or tv show you have to suspend belief at some point. if you can believe in aliens, transporter technology and the goofy episodes of the 60s why is one character speaking with the voice of another unbelievable? if you were to make a movie that followed all the rules of the universe it would be boring. why watch something where nothing exciting happens?

Why is it weird that Dr. McCoy may have been speaking in Spock's voice? People have done other voices before -- people like Mel Blanc back in the day and Seth MacFarlane today can speak in hundreds of different voices. Why not McCoy doing a dead-on Spock?

I always figured they did, because when you hear Spock's voice say "Scanning," everyone turns around as though they are absolutely stunned, a reaction extreme enough that it wouldn't be accounted for if they were hearing McCoy's voice saying it.

That and the fact that it was followed by Kirk's knowing smile and saying something like.

That was fine Bones, just fine.

I have a quick ST3 question - what does Chekov say after Kirk leaves to go see who broke into Spock's quarters? I've never been able to understand him.
