Scam Baiting

Mr Silver

Commodore
Newbie
This is somewhat inspired by the Junk Email thread

I dunno if anyone here has ever been a victim of an Internet Scam, however its nice to see people turning the tables

Perhaps one of the most epic websites on the Internet, started by a guy, who was just as fed up as we all are, of recieving Emails from "Nigerian Prince's" promising large sums of money for generous deposit, but it wasn't just this, a suprisingly large amount of people, either down on their luck or severely lacking confidence, fall victim to this Scam (nicknamed the 419 Scam) every year.

I personally find these types of Scams disgusting, especially when you take into account the techniques these Scammers use to further lure their victims (Blackmail, Threats, etc)

Heres one of my favourites from the Websites vast archive of success stories

It would be cool to hear everyones thoughts on this type of Internet Vigiliantism

I believe a member of this board actually turned the tables on one Nigerian scammer. The result was quite funny but I can't remember just which member it was. It was several years ago.

I don't scam-bait myself (I just don't have the patience for it) but it is great fun to read about and how else would the world get such nonsensical images to use for thread-bombs like this:

That might have been me! ;)

Here's my own scambaiting site:

The Lady Penelope, Goldcorp, and Dog Scammer baits are probably my best 'work'.

There was one guy who got a scammer to get a tattoo of a completely made up church. That one was pretty good.

I remember hearing online this one guy who, well it wasn’t scam baiting as much as going after those phone calls trying to sell things. The guy twanged a midwest sheriff’s accent and started interrogating the poor kid calling on the phone, that the person at the house was “found murdered” and what relationship did this caller have with the deceased, and “telling his deputy” to call the sheriff of the county where the caller was to pick up and question this kid.

I felt sorry for the kid, but it was hilarious to listen to. Not sure where it is online.

That was a telemarketing turn-table:
