Michelle Ryan has apparently said she won't be joining Doctor Who full-time.

The former Bionic Woman plays the Timelord's sidekick in the Easter special of the sci-fi show, but said she won't be the Doc's next companion, reports The Sun.

She said: "Please don't put your bets on me being the next assistant. You would be wasting your time."

"Doctor Who is amazing but I think people presume, 'Why wouldn't I want to do it as a regular thing?' I'm a commitment-phobe," the 24-year-old continued.

Michelle - who found fame as Zoe in EastEnders - said she saw her character Lady Christina as "someone who is around for this one-time adventure".

I never knew she was a commitment-phobe. Maybe this is a new thing since her let down on Bionic Woman.

Commitment-phobe could also translate to "the BBC can't pay me what I would need". I could be wrong, though...

Could be a double bluff!

Actually if she's popular, and if Moffatt likes her, there's no reason she wouldn't return for additional one offs in the future, even if she didn't want to be a regular companion.

provided she doesn't die, I wouldn't totally rule out of the race to be the 11th Doctors companion, however I wouldnt go getting your hopes up.

It's becoming increasingly clear that certain characters could be incinerated onscreen, followed by the Doctor looking directly into the camera and saying, "She's dead, OK? She's not coming back as the companion!", and some people would still refuse to rule them out as future companions.

to be fair there is a good reason for that

1) Donna came back, as unlikely as it seems and as much as it nearly killed fandom she came back

2) Rose came back, after being sucked into an alt reality, and the threat of all the alt realitys imploding into each other if she ever came back, guess what she still came back.

of course fans are going to think there is a chance someone might come back, Jack & Mickey both came back, the only companion esque character hasnt came back yet is Kylie & Jackson Lake (but he hasnt had chance yet)

How is this news? She wouldn't have been cast in a Special if there was any chance of her being the next fulltime Companion.

GOOD!

She couldn't act on BW, I know the writing was bad but even bad writings couldn't be to blame for her acting.

I think that Michelle is a good actress and just became the scapegoat for the shows failure. They had probs behind the scene with producers and writing... For Pete sakes they completely rewrote episodes and there was still bad writing. They also completely reshot the first episode and ditched the second episode. & then they changed characters- they recast the sister while changing her backstory & also did away with Jaime's boyfriend who was supposed to have a bigger role in the show. Michelle had a lot of crap to deal with. And then since everyone was comparing her performance to Katee Sackhoff, who did a great job... of course she had better lines, it made Michelle look worse. Did the Brits dislike Michelle's performance as much as the Americans?

I had no problem with her in the role of Zoe Slater in EE, she did very well in the episode where she found out hat Kat was her mother (ok so I confess im an Eastenders junkie), and that she did well in Jekyll, even if she was not given alot, same goes for her role in Merlin, her character was one of the highlights of the series, its no accident they extended her role for additional episodes.

before Jekyll I was not overly keen on the idea of her as a companion, but now she has done Jekyll & Merlin, I think she would be a good companion, and I very much look forward to seeing her in this specail.

i think she's a good actress actually. she wasn't much cop in BW, granted, but she's a lot better in Jekyll and Merlin.

I don't think she's a brilliant actress, but she's more than just a pretty face, has good on screen presense too. The main problem I had with her in BW was how scrawny they had to make her for the US markets. Seriously is there something unfemenine about curves? She was way sexier in Jekyll!

^ She didn't get scrawny... just tone. In America we like our action heroes (at least the females) to be tone!

BTW, I must admit that I started watching EastEnders because of Michelle Ryan. I am addicted to the show now....

It just looked wrong on her that's all, I realise it was probably supposed to be the nanites or whatever but it's like the sucked all the attractiveness out of her.

I started watching Eastenders, when Bianca was having an affair with her mothers boyfriend.

I thought her acting was fine. She was just given an extremely dull and uncompelling character to play (especially in contrast to Sackoff's character).

Her extremely flat American accent didn't help either.

Agreed on all of the above. It's not Ms Ryan's fault that NBC dropped the ball from the very start. Hell, the pilot episode was extremely rushed and packed into one hour instead of two hours, like it should have been to properly tell the story.

Dan Sullivan? Or further back with her trying it on with David, who ended up being her dad?

More importantly... why do I know this?

Ryans first statement in that snippet sounds like a very polite way of saying "Listen, I've already told you no... piss off."

Donna isn't the best example as she was a surprise and a needed change of dynamic to the relationship. Rose and Martha (and some others) were full time and came back for special deals, dragging friends alongside them and Jack - I reckon he'll end up as a 21st century Brig. Of sorts...

...then I notice that it comes from the sun website. A publication that should be burned to the ground.

Anyway... I'm thinking her wages might be higher than they were in Eastenders, would they hire a companion who's more expensive than they're new Doctor?
