Sayid and the Spa Bath (EP 1 & 2 Spoilers)

Demonland

Does anyone else think that Sayid might not be Sayid anymore after his dying dip in the giant spa and subsequent resurrection? I think he might now be the Jacob entity. If so, I can't wait for a throwdown between Sayid and Not Locke!

I think a lot of people have thought this, but that it seems too obvious to be true.

Also, why would Sayid ask, "What happened?" You'd think that if he were Jacob, he'd probably know what was going on.

Another thing worth mentioning is that Ben supposedly had the same treatment as a child, with the difference probably being the color of the water.

I assumed the darkness in the water was Dead Jacob, but I really don't try to figure things out anymore with this show. I'm usually wrong.

I mean, Jacob did just DIE. It stands to reason he might be a little disoriented.

Sayid's Christ-like pose upon being removed from the spa is most definitely a clue. What does it mean, though? My initial assumption is that Sayid = Jacob. I'll have to see something to contradict that before I change my mind ...

I thought exactly the same thing. Jacob either has or will take over Sayid--hence the Christ-like pose coming out of the water.

It makes sense that Sayid is now Jacob (or is that the other way round?). Jacob was the one who wanted to get Sayid to the temple. Did he just want to heal Sayid out of the goodness of his heart or did he want to take over his body and this was the only way to do it? He also wrote a note that was stashed in the Ankh that said if Sayid doesn't survive then they would be in trouble. In trouble from what? Not Locke? Seems that if Jacob is not around then Not Locke can gain access to the temple. So it is reasonable to assume that Jacob took over Sayid (a dead man?) sorta like his Nemesis took over Locke (another dead man) in order to stop Not Locke from gaining access to the temple.

I'm sure the disorientation that Sayid showed was just a good way to end on a cliffhanger rather than say, "hey I'm now Jacob"!

Until Sayid acts differently, I'll assume he's Sayid. Afterall, it's implied that Ben was brought there as a little kid. Of course, Sayid is now an Other at the very least (ironic after being accused of one last season).

Yeah, I'm not sure about the Sayid being Jacob, either. It seems a little too obvious.

The healing spa just struck me as sort of a mythological motif. It's where you die and are reborn as an Other. You die to your old self and awaken as something else. Of course, that something else could be Jacob, but we'll see. :)

yah, people are saying that they think Jacob = Sayid, like MIB = Locke, but the difference is MIB just looks like Locke, Locke's body is still lying around. So if Jacob has taken over Sayid then it is different then what MIB/NotLocke currently is.

That said Jacob did tell Hurley to take Sayid to the Temple, maybe he knew Sayid wouldn't survive and he just wanted a body taken there that he could possess. (Maybe he could only possess the body if it was put in the water first, or if it was in the temple?)

Still to early to say, but I hope it isn;t true. I like Sayid the way he is.

I think the process simply took longer then usual because something happened to the water.

It has crossed my mine that maybe given that the others pick the leader at an early age. that maybe walt was chosen? and maybe the dripping wet visions of him have something to do with the temple pool as well. or maybe he was sick and they kidnapped him to save him with the pool.

Did the water color change because Jacob (the man in white) is dead? Now the color is dark, a parallel to the black vs. light theme of the show...

I have a half-baked theory that maybe smokey is Anubis, and that Sayid rising from the dead was not because of the spa but was some consequence of Jacob dying. I'm not sure where I'm going with this. :shifty:

I doubt Jacob is Sayid now. I think Jacob will continue to speak through Hugo.

But, Ben didn't die.

They spent quite a bit of time last season insisting "dead is dead". Leading up to the big reveal - Locke is MIB.

Sayid was dead. dead is dead. It only makes sense that Sayid is now Jacob.

Something I found interesting reading today was about Charlotte Malkin. If you recall, she was the daughter of the psychic that Claire spoke with. Eko also spoke with him when investigating miracles, and Charlotte's story was that she had drowned and come back to life a couple hours later. Apparently in the tape of her autopsy, whispers could be heard, implying something to do with the island/others. So she might have had a similar experience as Sayid (drowning and coming back to life).

I don't remember hearing whispers on the tape. It was just the doctor and nurse talking quietly about the autopsy then the girl wakes up and begins screaming.

Also it was said that she had been in ice cold water when she drowned, and that has been know to happen every now and then, where someone drowns in very cold water, but comes back to "life" later.

I don't think the water Sayid was in was very cold.

But maybe... It would be a hell of a stretch to link the to events together and I doubt they (the writers) would try and explain the link since Eko is dead and no one else currently on the island knows anything about eh girl in Australia.
