Saw it last night, still processing, but....

El Maestro

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
This was a fantastic movie. It was also a fantastic *Trek* movie. Sure, there are lots of changes to the Trek I've watched over the course of my whole life, but I'm pretty much ok with all of it.

Why?

I was incredible to see a *big* Trek movie. The sweeping soundtrack, the sets, the effects, the beauty shots of the 1701, the dialogue (faithful to the characters!), even the title shot at the beginning had an aura of epic size to it. Even in the run-up to the release, the marketing and incidental promotions (the movie had the best official website I'd ever seen), all suggested that this was to be an event. It's really gratifying to see the people who made this movie treat the material with the affection that they did. My biggest complaint about Nemesis and some of the other TNG movies was that it seemed that those who made the movie were unfamiliar with the material and characters!

I know that there are those who will disagree with me, but I really feel as if the Trek mythos and characters, in spite of the changes, were taken seriously and treated with respect in this movie. As a result, I feel Trek is on a serious upswing and I'm thrilled to see something I've always loved get writ large for all to see. I'm very happy with how this turned out.

Amen. I wish I could see this on an IMAX screen for the rest of my life at will, because it was just awe-inspiring.

Couldn't agree with you anymore

Most of us were always going to find at least one or two small things about this film we didn't like, and most of us who've seen it have. And most of those small things are valid criticisms.

But I don't think anyone who's seen the film can deny that JJ, while necessarily reinventing the wheel, has done Trek proud, more so than most of us thought he would or could.

Nice one, JJ. :techman:
