I not because the fans weren't trying but because all TPTB seemed to have made up their minds no matter what. (Though I had second thoughts even about that when I saw how much money fans raised.)
You hit the nail right on the head. TPTB had decided to pull the plug and the angel Gabriel descending from heaven with direct orders from The Boss would not have dissuaded them. Especially Les Moonves (head of CBS).
As for Trek 2017, I don't know whether it will pass or fail but I know this much -- I ain't paying to watch it. I've shelled out enough to enrich CBS/Paramount coffers over the years, and this move (especially on the 50th anniversary, no less) smacks of greed and contempt for the fans whose loyalty kept the Trek franchise alive when everyone else thought it was dead. I don't know how it will work up here in Canada, but like I said -- not one red cent. (Unless my man Connor Trinneer is a regular;and even then, he'd have to have a lot of screen time. A lot.)
No I wasn't part of any "Save Enterprise" campaign. But I was part of an "End Enterprise" campaign.
Oh, you're one of the charmers who made reading forums such a delight.
