Save/Bring back sooner Your Favorite NBC show

Jay Leno Must Die

NBC is trying a new model for scheduling shows this fall. Instead of starting all the new shows sometime in September, they are holding back on several until after this winter's Olympics and starting them next March. Shows like Medium, Friday Night Lights, and my favorite Chuck. And their solution to their new schedule is to air the Jay Leno Show Monday through Fridays at 10pm/9central.

This thrills me like the prospect of having a root canal done five nights a week without pain killers.

So the goal is pretty clear. If Leno tanks, NBC will need an extra 5hrs/week of prime-time programming. A contingency that I know the Chuck cast and crew are preparing for (they were filming the 4th ep of the 13 ep season this week), a plan that I hope other "mid-season" shows are implementing as well. Also, if Leno goes away we can hope to see additional episodes of our favorite shows ordered (instead of the truncated season runs currently planned).

So, if you like one of the planned mid-season shows and want it on the air sooner or if you just hate Jay Leno (or both), make sure not to watch Leno starting on Monday. And make sure that everyone you know also avoids watching the show. They are starting it earlier than most other shows, hoping it will get people to watch it by virtue of it being the only new program on. And then hoping that it makes itself a viewing habit before the rest of the new schedule starts to air by the last week of the month. They are counting on Leno out performing the tedium of reruns and the lack of thought by the average television viewer. DON'T FALL FOR THIS. If this ploy succeeds, it will only spread.

Save television, kill Jay Leno.

Re: Jay Leno Must Die

Medium will be on CBS this season, not NBC.

And don't worry, I have zero interest in watching Leno's new show. Maybe if they'd made it a weekly show or given him two nights a week it wouldn't be so bad, but five nights a week is just insane.

I can watch all I want to and it won't affect anything. I'm not one of the chosen ones picked to decide what does and doesn't get renewed.

to be frank I dont see the point of this, if a show is returning then its returning its alot better than some other shows, stop being so bitchy and accpet it.

Good luck, according to a Time Magazine article NBC has stated that they're going to give Leno a few years regardless of ratings. And anyway Leno's Show is going to be significantly cheaper than any other (non-reality) show that they would put in that slot so I seriously doubt you're going to do any good.

I'm sure Leno will do well with the older demographics since Conan doesn't appear to be their thing, my parents are getting excited about it, so Leno will be around for a while. Hell, I may tune in once in a while if absolutely nothing else is on, and
I'll take Leno over most reality shows any day.

Bring Back Star Trek!

What? It was on NBC...

The thread title does have the word "sooner" in it which undermines your poor attempt at humor. As never will always be never no matter how soon it comes. As well as Star Trek now being a Paramount property, so if it goes to any major network it will be CBS.

I deem your attempt at humor to be Lenoesque level funny. IOW, not at all.

Rallying non-Nielsen families to not watch a TV show they may actually want to watch makes perfect sense to me.

r. As never will always be never no matter how soon it comes. As well as Star Trek now being a Paramount property, so if it goes to any major network it will be CBS.

There's no law that says CBS can't produce a Star Trek series and sell it to NBC if that makes the best sense for all parties. Most likely, that configuration wouldn't occur, but it could. Star Trek certainly would make more sense on desperate NBC than on CBS, which has the most wrong-for-Star-Trek audience of any major network and a police-procedural-based strategy that is working beautifully for them.

I don't see why CBS would want to waste a time slot on Star Trek, but NBC may as well make a Hail-Mary pass, especially if their extremely tired fall lineup crashes and burns as per usual and they realize that the timid approach isn't going to work.

Thse of us without Nielsen boxes have our own Secret Mission a la Chuck:

Find Nielsen box holders and distract them Monday through Friday at 10 pm!

i hope the leno show does well. while i worked briefly at NBC he was a class act. he's very funny in person, very humble and just a nice guy.

as for NBC's programming dilema... well they are banking on reality TV and how cheap it is to make. they aren't looking to make quality shows, just cheap shows. shotgun out enough cheap shows and maybe one of them will stick. it's a very short sighted plan, and isn't even working for them.

Am I the only one that watched Kings?

(checks ratings for Kings)

Apparently so... well, that's what my vote goes to.

Get over yourself, pal. It was just a cheap gag. You don't need to get so defensive.

I started to-then they announced it was on the chopping block and I stopped. Waiting for DVD set instead so I can watch it without those pesky commercials or week-long interludes...
