You just know there was some asshat trying to either enter or leave the city by car tonight who was completely and utterly shocked that the bridge was closed and running into the roadblocks was the first they'd heard of the closure.
I have class in the city tomorrow but I am seriously considering emailing in my work and sleeping in...even though I get on BART at the line, I know its going to become completely packed as I move closer to the city.
Well, it's possible, greatly slim, but possible; that some people haven't heard of what is happening.
Looking at the "Bay Bridge 360" link provided I'm quite impressed with what the Bay Area or California construction crews and DOT is pulling off it seems they really got their act together on this project and doing this job -despite the holiday compensation they have to pay their crews- over the Labor Day weekend is a damn good way to avoid too much transit inconveniences for commuters.
Building the replacement section, remvoing part of the exsisiting bridge, and then "sliding in" the replacement section is pretty damn brilliant. Looks like a marvelous, well tought-out, and well executed project.
Kudos to the California District of Transportation and the two websites provided in the OP are nifty and very well designed, too.
