"Samurai Jack" returns in 2016

Wow. I used to watch this with my nephew when he was a pre-schooler.

He'll be 18 in two weeks. :wtf:

First reaction: yay!
0.67 seconds later: remembers Mako is no longer with us and not I'm sad.
I think I just gave myself emotional whiplash.

My son and I loved that show!

"FOOLISH SAMURAI WARRIOR!!"

Great to see it coming back.

:techman:

Surprised but welcomed. I thought they were going to make this into a movie? A live action one and an animated movie which would have tied up the loose ends of the series.

Good lord, has it been that long? (Looks it up) Wow, 2001-4. Come on, how can something from after 2000 be so far in the past? It's the freaking 21st century!

They had it back in rotation on Cartoon Network not long ago.
Good that they gave Bebop a rest for awhile.

Sometimes it feels like I've outgrown my interest in animation, but I'll definitely check this out.

The creator addressed that in the announcement. He said he wanted to do a movie for years and that went no where. He guesses that the show is meant for TV and that now is a good time to finish up the storyline.

Now if we can only get Adult Swim to make a show that takes place in the Avatar / Korra universe.

Excellent!
Thanks for filling me in. Didn't read that anywhere. I'm glad they are going to finish the story.:techman:

Wow, this is totally out of the blue. For me, anyway. But it's great news. Samurai Jack was a very cool cartoon-- cool enough for me to get it on DVD. I hope they actually give him a (successful) end to his story.

Took be forever to find an article with the quote, but it turns out the quote is a few months old (September).

I think through the years, after we finished Jack, almost every year it seems like Samurai Jack has gotten more and more popular and more and more people have seen it. I feel like it’s culminating to a fever pitch almost. I feel like it’s time to maybe finish the story. We’ve been trying to get the feature off the ground but maybe that’s just fate’s way of saying this is a television thing and maybe it should be a mini-series or something like that.

New Comic Con panel where the creator talks about the return of the series:

Things learned:

* Takes place 50 years in-verse wise from the last episode of the original run. The time difference is supposed to be explained, since Jack would be way older than the new series shows.

* Airing on Adult Swim, prime time, so there's more freedom.

* The Scotsman character is back in, quote, "a big way."

* Sad news: James Venable is not returning to do the scoring.

* A new voice actor has been found to voice Aku, trying to imitate the now deceased Mako.

Still no exact release date.

Outstanding news! The article mentions it as both a "new season" and a "reboot" which is a little confusing.
Wonder who's voicing Aku.
A good question, they've got some big shoes to fill. Too bad Mako Iwamatsu isn't still alive, he did a fantastic Aku.

The article writer is confused -- it's not a reboot. As Gennedy stated in the Comic Con panel, it's a final run (of ten episodes) that will conclude the series.

I'm a little disappointed -- I'd have liked for there to be more seasons, not just ten episodes that tied it up.
