I love the 1988 remake. It had lots of practical effects over CGI so I am wondering to myself what this remake will be like. Really 1988 was not that long ago do we really need this?

My reaction, too. Thirty years is "not too long ago"?

Most of the target audience wasn't even born when the last remake came out . . . and, sadly, the 1988 version didn't make much of a splash, so the average moviegoer has never seen or heard of it. (A shame, because I liked it, too.)

Indeed, the 1958 original and the 1988 remake were . . . thirty years apart.
