PARIS - Somali pirates in two skiffs fired on a French navy vessel early Wednesday after apparently mistaking it for a commercial boat, the French military said.

A commercial boat ? Strange color for a commercial boat if you want my opinion...

It probably happened at night, the human eye sucks at discerning colour in low-light conditions, particularly at those kinds of ranges.

Not even that but at night that can certainly look like a freighter.
