Samali pirates mistake French navy vessel for commercial ship.

Here's a bit of poetic justice....

Complete AP story here.

PARIS - Somali pirates in two skiffs fired on a French navy vessel early Wednesday after apparently mistaking it for a commercial boat, the French military said.

The French ship gave chase and captured five suspected pirates.

.....

La Somme "was probably taken for a commercial ship by the two small skiffs" about 250 nautical miles off Somalia's coast, Prazuck said.

"They understood their mistake too late," he said.

One skiff fled, and La Somme pursued the second one in an hour-long chase.

"There were five suspected pirates on board. No arms, no water, no food," Prazuck said.

.....

They are the pirates who don't do anything,
They just stay home and lie around,
And if you ask them to do anything,
They'll just tell you...WE DON'T DO ANYTHING!

Well see, that was anti-climactic.

Too bad it wasn't the US who met them. We'd have generated a much better story, with lots of kewl 'splosions. :p

The French should have fired back with some choice insults:

"Pirate scum, now go away or we shall taunt you a SECOND TIME!"

Unarmed, hungry, dehydrated Pirates. Doesn't sound like much of a challenge. :rommie:

When it was the US navy doing it, it was brave, and cool, and glorious. Now the French do it, and everybody goes "meh". Shame on you. :p
