Sam Worthington admits T4 sucked ass

This is hilarious! From IO9

And I can nitpick with the best of them, man, and go down the list of things I saw on IMDB where they found holes in it and go, 'You are f***ing right. If there was a big ten-ton robot coming outside that gas station, surely we would f***ing hear it!' And I missed that!
I remember three months ago that was the biggest gripe that most members here (and other sites) had about the movie - after of course how Skynet fails to kill Connor even on its own fucking turf! But when the main star of the movie denounces/acknowledges the ridiculousness of the plot, you gotta wonder what true merit the movie actually has. T4 was a mess from 30 mins onwards and I will always hold a grudge against McG for ruining a truly golden opportunity to revive a once beloved franchise.

I've lost all respect for Sam Worthington. Shame. He's entitled to his opinions, but what an asshole.

Um he didn't completely denounce the movie, all he said was he should have picked up on it and suggested it to the director. Though I don't think people realized that the Harvester rode into position aboard the HK and that the HK's are supposed to have a version of Stealth Mode.

As for the film: I thought it was ok but I agree with many that it could've been better. A lot of the problems came from the fact that the film was heavily reworked even after the filming had already begun with many of the elements being changed on the go. One of the first big changes was that John Connor was given a larger role. In the original script Connor had only a handful of scenes in the entire film and Marcus was the lead and dominated the script. When Bale was contacted he was not asked to be John Connor but rather he was auditioning to play Marcus Wright. He was offered the role but then turned it down because he wanted to play John Connor instead.

So they rewrote the film. The rewrites were then rewriten again after the original ending of the movie was leaked because they were worried about negative fan reaction (plus their twist ending had been leaked after all). The original ending, for those who don't know, had Skynet killing Connor inside the Terminator factory and several scenes where the Resistance's remaining leaders (i.e. Kate, Barnes, Blair, and Marcus) decide how to handle it since Connor is the voice of the Resistance. They decided, well Marcus does, that they will use the technology to give John a terminator body. Marcus is deactivated, Connor's brain is moved into his endoskeleton, and they replicate his skin and put it over Marcus' endoskeleton.

Another major subplot was also dropped after Helena Carter's family was killed in a car accident and she was no longer available. The Serena Kogen seen on the monitors in Skynet Central was not Skynet, she was Serena Kogen. After she had built the Marcus Terminator, Serena built her own body and was reawoken. She and her associates became Skynet and launched the war on their own. You can still see clips though of the scenes in the original trailer (a group of scientists working in the Skynet laboratory). Also, concept art was completed showing Serena with the endoskeleton exposed after Skynet Central exploded.

I think for all the changes it could have been a lot worse.

I just hope that whatever happens, Sam Worthington comes back. He was the whole reason I didn't give the movie a bomb rating. Well, and Moon Bloodgood...

^ Sam Worthington was only contracted for one film; however, the scene that confirmed Marcus was truly dead was cut from the film (it was filmed though).

A scene was filmed where Kyle buries Marcus before they take off into the sunset. In the scene he finds the picture of Sarah Connor in the jacket.

Y'know how roller coasters have signs that say "you need to be this tall to be on this ride"? Well some films need a sign which says "You need to be this drunk to enjoy this movie".

I was pretty hammered when I went to see that movie, and I still didn't enjoy it.

Apparently, whiskey doesn't fix everything. I'm still kind of disappointed about that.

As for the Harvestor Bots being dropped off by HK's or whatever with stealth mode, where in the film does it show these ships having stealth mode?

I thought T4 was decent enough but actually I would've enjoyed it a lot more with some of these changes. The other Terminator movies ended with something substantial happening, but this one didn't. If the script hadn't changed I think it would've given us a complete WTF moment that would've had people talking more about T4 than they do now, good, bad, or indifferent.

You and I, people who spend years on message boards discussing these things may know it. But for the general public who are watching they cannot have any clues.

That would have been a far better ending, and tell us why John Connor is only seen by a select few who are near him, or why he could eventually defeat the machines. A truly imaginative ending actually. Would have been a ballsy move. Think of how Vulcan got fucking destroyed. It only helped the movie, not harm it.

I think for all the changes it could have been a lot worse.
I think the opposite, I would say it would have been far better than the absolute fucking crap we got.

^ You misinterpreted what I wrote. I meant to say with all the changes that were made, with all the rewrites, I think that the product ended up being pretty good compared to some other films with massive rewrites.

I was going to start a new thread on T4 but this one will do.

Say what you will about plot holes and Skynet's inability to kill Connor/Reese when they're gallivanting in a Terminator factory. This movie had one of the most awesome scenes in any Terminator production and that was when Connor blasted the T-800 with his grenade launcher. First shot and the thing just rears back with some skin blown off. Second shot and the rest of the skin sloughs off (in an awesome effect- I mean Jesus H. Christ, it's flaming skin burning off and it looks amazing even though I normally would be disgusted by a scene like that!) and the Terminator just keeps coming. After T:SCC used the T-888 (a more advanced model) for cannon fodder week after week it was nice to see some serious menace put back in the endoskeleton.

^ I agree that was one of the best looking scenes in the film.

As for the T-888, there were a lot of problems with it but they were essentially meant to be T-800s. The producers weren't allowed to use T-800s because the original design wasn't approved for their use, or so I read.

It wasn't that bad of a movie. It was mindless fun. Now, it was garbage compared to T2, but it was much better than T3. I can tell you that I enjoyed it more than Star Trek.

T4 was a mess of a film. That much is clear from the ego-driven rewrites for Christian Bale as John Connor. The only redeemable element was the "salvation" angle from Worthington's character. But that was squeezed to the sidelines to accommodate Bale's wooden, uninspired, pathetic performance.

Sad, really.

And good for Worthington being able to admit to even some of the flaws in the production. Honesty can be a good thing.

I'd say I respectfully disagree. :) I am not sure about other films, but the Terminator-Future-War stories basically write themselves. For years we have had comics and novels which depicted the war and carried the stories entertainingly. I am sure McG never even looked at them.

McG is a victim of the internet, and his stupidity in listening to it...or possibly a victim of studio brass who listened to it, but not a lack of talent or ability to recognize a good story. The film he originally set out to make was good. The Connor becoming a Terminator storyline was compelling and interesting and ballsy and a surprising new direction for the franchise. When it leaked, they never should have started changing everything mid-production. That leads to production oversights, confusion and the integrity of everything just falls apart.

Filmmakers...trust your vision, and know the internet is a bunch of retards. :)

Amen. :)

The only good thing to come out of the anal abortion of a movie:

And the truth is why should he? He's the director of the film so it was pretty much his choice what happened with the filming. If he copied, for example, the storyline suggested by T2: The Future War (my personal favorite) people would be complaining. If he borrowed elements from them same result.

It's all moot now though anyway because one of three things will happen with the series:

1. He'll be allowed to continue on as he wants and his plans involve a return to Pre Judgement Day storylines focusing on Future John Connor in the past trying to prevent JD.

2. The lawsuit currently filed against Halcyon wil result in the Terminator rights being sold again. Rumor has it Arnold is considering buying them at which point he has said he has no plans of continuing Terminator further.

3. The series will go to Direct to DVD (which is being considered as a follow up to The Sarah Connor Chronicles).

One potential flaw I see in Connor-as-a-Terminator is that he's killed by the same Terminator from T3. It's not a massive plot hole but to think Connor in a Terminator body could be so easily duped/fooled and then killed by another Terminator does stretch credibility. Then again with the changes to the timeline he might have still been human at the time. It's one of those vague areas of the plot we never see fleshed out.
