Well from the looks of things, hate comes easy to you.

It astounds how often I'm judged by my last two or three posts around here...

No, Aragorn. Nomally I think Tom Cruise is a great actor. In fact, I was probably one of the few around here who thought his version of War of the Worlds was fantastic. I'm also one of the few who hated the Mission Impossible movies, and that's all this would have been with him in it.

As for Jolie, she was just hopelessly miscast. I just don't buy her as a Russian Jane Bond.

And if you mean Scientology, I'm not going to show respect for a religion created as a practical joke by a third rate science fiction writer.

:scream:Angelina Jolie is known for her strong female characters and nothing about her role as Evelyn Salt will change that. But if Laura Croft is tough in Tomb Raider Evelyn is tougher. If Christine Collins is single-mindedly determined in Changeling, Evelyn is driven. If Jane Smith knows how to wield a gun in Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Evelyn can mow down an entire squadron—all by herself. To state it simply, Evelyn Salt is like a CIA agent on steroids.

I voted 'Below Average.'

If the Bourne movies are Gucci handbags, then Salt is a cheap knockoff.

(Sorry--I was just watching Season One of Weeds last night. Good series.)

(So...um... how about that football game last night?)

Anyway--I thought the movie was pretty foolish. I was actually rolling my eyes and sighing with exasperation at some points. And it wasn't helped by the fact that it took itself so seriously.

Though, to be fair--the climax was not badly done, overall. It featured both an interesting twist, and some of the movie's best acting.

But then, after the supreme effort required to produce just a few good and believable scenes, the movie collapsed from exhaustion. The denouement was truly craptacular.

You must be new to the series.

Yes, I am. Why? Does it start to suck later?

Good god yes. To the point I tell people not to even bother with the 4th and 5th seasons, they are that bad. They are so insanely bad that in season 5 there would be two "jump the shark" moments in an episode. It's amazing how many times the shark jumps, it must have joined the circus.

It's probably as bad as Salt. (Back on topic!)

.
The only thing this mess has in common with Bourne is that Salt once grabbed a map. Things are done just to make the plot work like handcuffing people with their hands in front when dead bodies have their hands cuffed behind the back and a handcuff chain as long as a garrote:brickwall:.

Hopefully this is the last movie for a while with the heroine firing two guns while running up the wall.
I thought they were done with those about 4 or 5 years ago.

Frankly I'll take more Salt. It's made $51.5m in its first week of release. Be curious to see what type of second weekend it has.

Dinner for Schmucks isn't direct competition nor is Cats vs Dogs 2. It'll be Inceptions third weekend and that is still its only direct competition.

If Salt can drop less than 55% it would be a promising sign. Meaning it needs to haul in about $18-19m this weekend.

Looks like I and other fans of SALT got what I'd hoped for with Salts second weekend.
Salt managed only to drop 45% with a tally of $19.4 million to bring its 10 day total up to $71 million USdom and WW of $103m to date.

When a film drops less than 50% its typically an indicator of good - great WOM.

Yeah, thanks for reminding me what really counts when reviewing a movie.

I saw it today and would recommend it. The plot is hilarious.

She's not, she just happens to be the best. The cream of the crop. Are you going to complain next why Bond is the best 00 agent or Bourne the best to come out of Treadstone. They are just the best.

In other SALT news the film crossed the $100m mark this past weekend and now the films total stands at $103.4m.

And while it still is just a stones throw away from breakeven talk of sequel has already began. However, since it is slowing down domestically, placing 9th this weekend, the sequel is not a sure thing. Mearly something that is being thought about should its performance overseas continue in the promising manner it has started.
With "Salt" currently sitting on a little over $100 million domestic and with the international rollout kicking off shortly on the Angelina Jolie spy thriller, talk has inevitably turned toward a possible sequel considering the ending leaves things wide open. ...
The film's scribe Kurt Wimmer has ideas for how to advance the story, director Phil Noyce is said to be interested in returning, and star Angelina Jolie has previously said that she's keen to work on a sequel....
Costing $110 million to produce, the film's domestic performance simply isn't good enough on its own. As a result the studio is waiting on how the film performs in key international territories where star-driven escapist spy films tend to fare better at the box-office.

I know that with Bond and Bourne off the radar for the short term, Jack Ryan's return delayed and Ethan Hunt maybe coming off a hiatus I'm glad for the possibility of SALT to see more action.

SALT has been expanding the last several weeks overseas and that has driven its RTCritics score to FRESH(for those who look at that) with 61% and RTCommunity has been 65% for awhile now.

The movie has also as of Monday dailies (8/23) hit its production budget number of $110m.

This can only help in any discussion of pushing a sequel forward along with having good oversea receipts.

Nikki Finke who as many of you may know was a lead contributor for the website DeadlineHollywood.com now has the site Deadline.com. Nikki has long built a rep of having key contacts and knowing things before others.

So when buried in an article on her site about Angelina Jolie's refusal to once again take the lead in Gravity is the following quote:
...In addition, there is a sequel to Jolie's summer hit Salt just getting underway at SPE;...

"Getting underway" could mean a host of things.

I'm awaiting an official announcement of course but would like to see where they go with the character. Seems there a few avenues they can go down for quite a few movies.

Salt currently sits at $113.6m US domestic and worldwide $244.6m.
