In case anyone missed it, Carey Mulligan got her much-anticipated Oscar nomination for Best Actress for My Education.

As I understand it, this makes her only the second Doctor Who actor to receive an Oscar nomination, after Sophie Okenedo (Alison in the Scream of the Shalka webcast) for Hotel Rwanda.

We'll never get her as a companion now.

Well I never wanted that anyway - Sally was a perfect one-time character; to have her come back would have diminished her.

It does lessen the chances of Carey doing the convention circuit anytime soon, though.

Sweet. Congratulations to Ms. Mulligan.

Now I should find the time to watch the film...

Good for hear! She's wonderful.

Also, her voice? Is sex incarnate. </creeper>

The fascination with Sally Sparrow is rather opaque to me, like the Trek TOS people who make over "Helen Noel." Both struck me as reasonably attractive, unremarkable TV actors/characters.

Actually Carey said in an interview recently, she wouldn't mind coming back if Steven asked.

Yeah, but even if she doesn't win, her asking price has undoubtedly gone past what the BBC is likely willing to pay. She's entered Keira Knightley territory and most certainly will stay there awhile, especially if Wall Street 2 is a hit.
