IMO the books entered a downward spiral in quality after the first two and I doubt they are anywhere as popular now as they were 30 years ago. If they want a GoT competitor, there's other SF and fantasy book series from that era that also might be adaptable, such as The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant (fantasy) and the Helliconia trilogy (SF). I tried watching the Shanarra adaptation on Netflix recently and I think perhaps fantasy adaptations are just not for me.
Eeeps I had sorta forgotten about those (VD)...not something a man really wants to dwell on. If I were actually a Protector, wouldn't matter.
Shanarra was pretty low quality I thought, like an extended music video. Covenant--gad that is depressing stuff. I can't see that appealing to a large audience. Frankly I finished those books years ago only because I started them and felt it was something I had to do, but I wanted to put them down and walk away. Don't like Donaldson at all.
I loved the whole Pliocene saga right through Nonborn King. The Adversary is still not bad. And Intervention is, I would say, very good. The Milieu trilogy
does have a rushed feel, I have to admit--too much description, not enough showing. But even though they aren't all that widely known now, I don't see why they wouldn't appeal to a fresh audience. And it (Pliocene) has kings and queens and knights etc. Helliconia is also decades old as well.
The Chronicles of Amber are being made, so that's good.
I'd like to see the War Against the Chtorr--but then, I would like to see Gerrold finish it. A Method for Madness was supposed to come out this month. Once again, Lucy and the football. Grrrrrrrr....
Maybe some of Chalker's stuff? The Well World, finally? The Quintara Marathon? The Four Lords of the Diamond?
Would LOVE to see Known Space come to the small screen. Oh wow if they would do Pak Protectors (and human Protectors)...
Also I think Avram Davidson's Vergil Magus books could be amazing on tv (The Phoenix and the Mirror, and Vergil in Averno).
