At about 14:19 in this video, it's mentioned that the designer of the Saber Class initially came up with a version that included three warp nacelles, called the U.S.S. Saratoga.
The third nacelle was to be attached above the receding secondary hull, and, strangely, was to look like a Galaxy Class nacelle.
