S02E14: The Icarus Factor - Riker's Choice and Worfs Future

Levi

Commander
Red Shirt
In this episode, Riker is offered his first command of the USS Aries. Once the crew begin to find out, Worf offers to go with and serve under Riker.
We know that Riker turns this offer down. But if he had taken the command, and Worf did go with him, what do you suppose Worf's career would have been like?
They mention that the USS Aries would be in dangerous territory, Worf's skills could have flourished in this situation. I had a quick view of Worf quickly becoming Captain Riker's First Officer. And if that was the case, I could see Worf later being offered a command perhaps?

If Riker had accepted and Worf did go with him, what do you suppose would have happened with their Careers?

Sure, Riker would have been a Captain, but he'd be one of those captains that vanished into the background. He would never have gained the mythos of being the commander of the ship that saved Earth from the Borg and would just be another ship out there.

Both he and Worf benefited in their careers from serving in key positions on the flagship of the fleet.

^Yes, plus Worf would have been unsuitable as a first officer. They made it clear Riker wasn't going to pick a new first officer as the one already there would be vital for Aries' long term mission in that area.

They didn't talk as if it was a dangerous region. They just implied it was a truly backwater part of the Federation in a remote sector where there is some kind of diplomacy mission under way.

Once the crew begin to find out, Worf offers to go with and serve under Riker.
Worf tried to escape from his own homesickness. It wasn't a wise idea. He needs to never be too far from the Empire for too long. The holodeck can't be always the solution.

I don't think he was ready to be First Officer.

The Federation's his home. He was out of place when he was on the homeward. Picard fit in more.

Would Kurn have been able to transfere out to the USS Aries to get Worf to counter the claims against their father?
