S&S Audiobook Sweepstakes

I just saw a report on StarTrek.com about S&S's current Trek audiobooks sweepstakes.
The first prize is a 18GB iPad Mini, 8 audiobooks, and a $100 giftcard for Star Trek Shop.
The runners up will get the audiobooks and the giftcard.
They don't list the audiobooks anywhere, but they do have picture of an iPad with 8 audiobooks on the screen, so I'm assuming those are the ones they are giving away.

The Entropy Effect
The Ashes of Eden
Spock vs Q
Imzadi
Klingon
Star Trek (the 2009 movie)
Mosaic
Emissary
I don't plan on entering myself, but I thought some of the other posters on here might be interested.

Oh sorry, I didn't even think to check if it was open to people outside the US.
 
^ No worries, these things are usually only local to whatever country the website is run out of. Just thought I'd check, though, in case! :)
 
It's not surprising, but that kind of limited thinking just makes less and less sense to me.
 
As far as I understand, it's mostly because there is no international standard in this area of law; every nation tends to have its own laws guiding what is allowable in a contest without crossing over into gambling and what isn't. For each nation you'd need to have on staff an expert in that nation's laws in order to make sure your contest is actually legal in that nation, so it's easier and safer for a company to just focus on their home country even if it does mean excluding a large segment of potential audience.

I've always wondered about that. With most of the world being so connected these days I thought it was weird that so many of these kinds of sweepstakes and contests limited themselves to just one country.
