S-2--Tom, Neelix, Kes

KayArr

Commander
Red Shirt
7 episodes into season 2, I think I know why I quit about halfway through back in the day and didn't watch Voyager again until the fan collectives got me interested again--the whole "Neelix is jealous of Tom and Kes" thing makes me uncomfortable. It's not an ejoyable arc at all. However, I will soldier on, and watch 2 and 3 (now that I've bought them!), but 4-7 will probably remain my favorites. I must say though--for all the knocks it gets, I'm thinking that I liked season 1 better than season 2. Maybe the back half of season 2 will improve.

Season 2 peaks near it's end, with the Kazon arc, "Investigations", and of course, the great finale "Basics".

It wasn't that bad (and goes back to "Phage" in S1, really). I liked how at first it just seemed like Neelix was being a paranoid jerk but that Paris really was falling for Kes. It wasn't particularly good or anything but it produced some mildly interesting moments (like Paris' brooding conversaton over the matter in "Partuition").

It doesn't last that long so hang in there! Also, there are some awesome episodes in Season 2 - "Resistance", "Death Wish" and "Meld" to name a few. Plus, "Basics" is my favorite two-parter. :)

Jammer's Reviews seem to indicate that the best is yet to come, so I'll be patient. I'm not terribly impressed with Garrett Wang, though, that's for sure. Still, I really, really like these characters so far. I don't think that I knew how much I wanted to see a woman in command on Trek until Janeway came along.

I did find the "Neelix-Tom-Kes" scenario rather entertaining. That "scene" in the messhall in "Parturition" is hilarious! (I won't go into details here if you haven't watched the episode). OK, Neelix's jealousy can be annoying and I do think that the producers should have continued the scenario with making Kes dump him in some episode further on.

But there are many brilliant episodes in season 2 which I think that you will like. In my opinion, season 2 is the best Voyager season.

While I don't agree with you on season 2 being the best, I do agree that the scene from "Parturition" was one of the funniest scenes in the whole show. And I also agree about Neelix's jealousy

I'm glad his jealousy ws finaly over when she broke up with him in Warlord. I do think that Neelix became a much better character after they broke up

Despite getting rid of some of his jealousy, Neelix didn't change much during the seasons. He was the same friendly, funny and caring person he'd always been.

I think he did change a lot throught the seasons, from the beginning to the end of the show, he did change

Agreed, he was a far better and more enjoyable character by season 7 then he was in season 1.

I never watched season 7, except for "Endgame" but if he changed anything during the series, it must have been some remarcable change in that season because he was basically the same in seasons 1-6.

The fact that he went from being jealous of Kes talking to other men to being emotionally secure enough to let her go, shows tremendous growth of the character. The fact that he went from klinging to the crew of Voyager just have friends and be wanted like in "Fair Trade" to being mature enough to stand on this own and be a step-father to a boy and husband to his mother(Homestead) is another example of his maturity and growth.

Neelix went from being someone that was used to getting push around, to someone that can stand up for himself and take better care of himself. He grew up.
