Ryan Reynolds IS Green Lantern

Re: Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role

For what it's worth, the scuttlebutt is that Yelchin's name is being thrown around because he's with CAA, a very powerful agency, and they're pushing for an audition. Martin Campbell's top choice is rumored to be Henry Cavill.

Campbell must have a hard-on for that guy. Cavill was his choice for a young James Bond in Casino Royale, before they decided to go older and went with Craig.

Re: Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role

They could do worse than Cavill, as Yelchin proves.

Re: Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role

Yelchin is fast becoming the next Shia lebouf

Star Trek
Terminator

and now rumored for GL

How about Michael Weatherly? He looks younger than he actually is and he's on one of the highest-rated TV shows.

How about Patrick Wilson? I saw him on a magazine cover tonight and immediately thought - young Paul Newman.

Not even knowing who it was at first. He plays Nite Owl. But looks so different without the costume and with short hair.

Re: Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role

It would be funny if Cavill got it. Being Campbell's choice for Bond aside, he was also a long running fan favorite for Superman before Brandon Routh was cast.

Re: Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role

Any actor who is mid 20's and looks like a 90210 cast member should be dismissed.

You know, I expect this sort of thoughtless youth generalization comment from BigC, not you. :p

90210 was back then what Smallville is now -- only instead one 30-something Tom Welling trying to act like he's in his teens, there were several.

I don't have a problem per se with the young crop of actors its just that none of them are "by the book" Hal Jordan. If the project were reimagining him as a young out of high school recruit then I could see a Gosling or Hirsch.

However, comic films have proven that the more honest you are to the source the better the chances for success. Marvel cast a RDJr and despite that the masses didn't know Tony Stark should appear as a 35yr old ish male that is how the character has been portrayed and had success in the written and animated form for years. They were smart not to "retool" what wasn't broken.

Likewise DC/Warners need look at Hal and do the same, almost any character really.

Re: Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role

I doubt this increases the chances of seeing Jack Black as G'nort.

Re: Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role

Yeah, but Gosling could still pass for a 21-23 yr old visually.

Re: Ryan Gosling & Emile Hirsch turn down "Green Lantern" role

I don't think Gosling looks that young. He could play a guy in his mid-20s, but a 21-year-old would be pushing it. In Fracture Gosling played a hot shot prosecuting attorney whose good track record in court has led to a big law firm recruiting him. He didn't look too young for the part at all. He'd be just fine playing a pilot in his late 20s.

I thought he was already Deadpool? I find it hard to believe they are picking the same actor to play the lead for two different two superhero movies released in the same year.

Wait.. I was just reading the story that they screen tested JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE for the role, but now Reynolds has gotten the part??

I've got no problem with Reynolds, but I was really hoping he'd get to be the Flash instead. Oh well, he deserves better than Deadpool (no offense to Deadpool fans), so good for him.

Thank goodness they didn't go with Timberlake.

He probably looks more like Hal Jordan than any other actor cast to play a superhero has ever looked like the character "model" - and Jordan has been remarkably consistent, give or take some grey sideburns, for about fifty years. Closer even than Reeve or Routh to ol' Clark.

Rayner? Keanu Reeves would have to be Rayner.

Really looking forward to this one.
