Good old Russel stirring up discussion by doing things. Threads about this on a few forums

Either a clever stunt and he does know or he's lost his marbles.
I suspect that translates to “Since we seem not to be coming back and I’ve no idea who’ll be running whatever future version of the show that may one day appear, I don’t know if Billie will be playing the Doctor when and if that future version happens”, rather than “When I made that episode I had no idea if the person the Doctor plainly turned into was in fact the Doctor, despite literally being the Doctor”.

Why is it that so many Doctor Who (and Star Trek / Star Wars etc.) fans always parse statements made by people in charge as if they are the literal truth?

He's not going to give away what happens if the series does return (in a reasonably short time-frame) in a random interview with a random YouTube channel FFS.

Sure. Remember how people tried to interpret the early obviously-just-boilerplate text when Discovery was first announced, probably before much development work had even been done?

If you look at these comments in context with the comments Tom Spilsbury made about Doctor Who possibly not returning for "multiple years" and RTD might not even be showrunner anymore and whoever the new showrunner is might just decide to start fresh with a new Doctor already in place like with Eccleston in 2005, then it makes all too much sense that RTD doesn't know if Billie Piper is indeed the next Doctor or not.

I remember when Sonnequa Martin-Green's casting in Disco was announced while she was still part of The Walking Dead's main cast, Walking Dead's executive producer Scott Gimple tried to evade questions about her departing the show by saying things like "the way our shows are filmed, one can fight zombies while serving on a Constitution class ship." Many then interpreted that as confirmation Disco would be set on a Constitution class starship, because of course someone who doesn't even work on the show is somehow a definitive authority.

For the love of Satan people, watch the actual video.

Well I missed that how did people react to that?
The text was something along the lines of “new crews, new worlds, etc!” You know, the sort of thing you can safely say about any upcoming Trek show even if you have no idea of the premise yet.

Cue people posting about “OK, they said new crews, plural — cool, now we know that the show will be the first one to focus on the adventures of multiple ships at once!”

(Admittedly, we did see more than one ship over the course of the series, as usually happens, but not in the rotating-crews sense the posters decided was implied.)

Ah yes, that's funny actually how people latch onto things.. I do it myself so I can't complain about anyone else

I think everyone knows what is going to happen but nobody is allowed to say it until it actually happens. The chance of another network replacing HBO is no doubt seen as a longshot.

RTD- There will big surprises just you wait! Oh yes! You do not want to check the internet after the show! There will big spoilers.

Have we covered the interview where he said that Ruby’s mum wished for a lamppost with the name on, and that’s why it’s there?

As someone who, whilst he didn't hate RTD, had issues with his first era, it's ironic to now be on the other side of the fence
Like, its not that RTD2 is perfect (Zombie Omega, my ass!) but at least its earnest in its attempt to bring the show back to some more depthful and more distinctly Whovian direction. As for issues with the first era - everyone on twitter is on a nostalgia cick for RTD1, but do they remember when Captain Jack kept a mini-gun hidden inside his asshole?
