Rush (the band)

Flying Spaghetti Monster

There are reports now that drummer Neil Peart has retired. That being the case, Rush the band has finally stopped after over 40 years.

Even if you don't like their music, you gotta respect their longevity, their album sales, how they influenced many musicians.. and that they always played the game on their own terms.

Here's to one of the greatest bands!

Great band who I have loved for 35 years plus.

Ripoff ticket prices, lack of dedication to fans abroad.

Mixed emotions...

Greatest Band of All Time.

:techman:

We were 5th row for their final tour, and it was incredible.

I saw them 14 times over the many years (dragging my poor sainted wife along with me), and was never disappointed. I met a lot of good friends and had a lot of good times along the way. We saw them twice in Las Vegas, those were great shows.

Rush was the soundtrack to my youth. I loved their power, their lyrics, and their dynamic sound. Their last studio album, Clockwork Angels, was just as good as anything they released previously. True artists, without all the drama.

Santa is bringing me R40 for Christmas. I can't wait to pop it in, and turn it up.

Thanks Gentlemen for everything you did. It was a great run.

The only mention of this I have been able to find is an article that says Neil's still keen on Rush being a studio band, and touring for special occasions. Not a complete retirement.

That said: I do like Rush very much (my favorite phase of theirs was the 80's, IMHO) and even though Neil's lyrics sometimes go over my head, I enjoy them quite a bit.

Not too surprising given that there were rumours that this would be their last major tour. Can't begrudge them that, given that they've been one of the hardest touring bands I know of. Personally, I'm not much of a fan, but I do recognize their talent. They've certainly made their mark, not only in Canadian music, but overall. Sometimes I even forget they're Canadian.

"...Today's Tom Sawyer, Mean, Mean pride..."

Oh, Hell, Yes!... :bolian:

Proj On in the studio, Warriors!

Great Band! I hope they continue to release new music. As for not touring it will save me some money and I can say I made it into their Clockwork Angles DVD that was filmed in Dallas!

I'm in the category of not being a fan but respecting their longevity and their incredible musicianship. They're all virtuosos, as far as I can see. I also admire a band that's so unashamedly unfashionable. A sad day, all right.

I "discovered" Rush in the 90s. Always really enjoyed their work (up through the mid-90s anyway) and have always regretted not seeing on of their shows. Great band, lots of thoughtful, interesting music and songs - one of which became a de facto theme song for my novel while I was writing it.

Great band. Sorry to see them go, but appreciate their creativity and work.

One of my favorites. My bad used to do that song, if only because it's the only Rush song I could ever hope to sing.

Here's Rush kicking the crap out of Subdivisions on the R30 tour.

When this song came out I was 15 years old. I could have sworn they were talking directly to me. I'm sure I'm not the only one. "Be cool or be cast out..."

Just fantastic stuff.

Turn it up!

I didn't get into Rush until 2005 or so, when my then-business partner (who had been a huge fan for decades) turned me onto them, and we went to Moline to see them on the Snakes & Arrows tour in ... 2007, I think. Great show (the pyro during "Far Cry" was amazing), and when I quit drinking and entered rehab and AA, Peart's book Ghost Rider was such an inspiration in those early days.

Tendinitis is an awful thing and I'm not surprised Peart has developed it to such a severe degree, given the extremity of his drumming. I'm glad we got as much music as we did from the band.
