Finally, Rush is releasing a re-mixed version of 2002's Vapor Trails.

"Vapor Trails was an album made under difficult and emotional circumstances — sort of like Rush learning how to be Rush again,” Geddy Lee said. “As a result, mistakes were made that we have longed to correct."

This is one of my favorite Rush albums just as it is, but there's no debating the mix came out "too hot" as Alex Lifeson once commented. The lower tones are thick and muddled at points.

Of course the difficult and emotional circumstances Lee refers to is that Vapor Trails was the first album Rush recorded after drummer Neil Peart lost his wife to cancer, and his daughter to a car accident, in a ten month period in 1997.

I think songs like Earthshine, Peaceable Kingdom, and Ceiling Unlimited are some of Rush's finest, and I'm looking forward to hearing what the band does with the opportunity to remix the entire thing.

The album is available for pre-order on Amazon now.

Rock and Roll!

:techman:

I wonder if the album will be available apart form the box set.

I'm going to get it if it is. It's a complex records featuring songs I really like.

Though I ill say that I'm no fan of "Earthshine." It never gelled with me.

But that's the great thing about the album. It takes so many risks. It never settles to ride the safe line. It will provoke strong opinions from people whop hate the music or those who love it.

Yes it is available for pre-order by itself.

$11.89 plus shipping and tax.

I liked it the way it was, but what the hell, I'll pick up the remastered version. If they're 'cleaning up' Vapor Trails, can they go back and remaster Hold Your Fire to be a little dirtier?

Good call.

They could meet somewhere in the middle.

HYF has some great songs, but it is overproduced.

It was the 80's, after all...
