Running my house with a com-badge.

Would it be so difficult to make a bluetooth-based combadge and use this (in conjunction with home automation software) to run my home?

"Computer - lights off" and so on - I don't see much of a technical challenge in this (the most difficult aspect seems to be molding the plastic for the combadge and then getting a bluetooth headset which is small enough for the components to fit into the mold? anyone done it?

Geeky I know but...

(hum, thinking about it, maybe this should be in general tech?)

Doesn't Bill Gates have his house fully automated like this where most things are voice controlled? Maybe with the right resources, like you said with the Bluetooth or better yet voice active sensors (?) then I'd guess it'd be great to have something like this.

It would however encourage us to become slightly more lazy that we already are, (which I have no problem of course). :)

A French lab facility years ago created a "combadge" that worked on radio frequencies that would allow staff to communicate with each other and control basic HVAC and lighting systems.

If you're using the open mic voice recognition option of homeseer and a viewer of this forum, change the default attention phrase.

The default attention phrase? "Computer."

My house always thought that Harry Kim was trying to tell it to do things. Thank all that's holy that my house didn't have a warp core to eject!

Bluetooth might be a little short on range for this project. Maybe FRS or MURS radio would be more suited, even if the units are more bulky.

AG, Homeseer user for... 8 years now? Wow.

You can contact a machine shop and have them mill it out of a block of plastic. Molding is for huge volume runs. Milling can one two three or more depending on how many you want.

We're talking $150-200 each at this scale. Whereas a mold would require tens of thousands of dollars of outlay.
