And my position is that for about 25 years, everybody saw "The Cage" only as part of a superior two-parter, hence it was always "new" material. And since "The Menagerie" includes the complete pilot minus very few inconsequential scenes, they might as well have never shown Cage in its original form. IMO, it's not officially an episode of Star Trek, only as part of "The Menagerie". "TheCage" is DVD bonus material.
