Rumor: Trek filming in bizarre aspect ratio

kirk4eva said:
really sorry to bother you with this but how do you post messages?

Well first, you make up a rumour, then post it using the 'new post' button. Then you get wildly indignant anytime anyone questions you about the basis of said rumour in fact. Then move onto the 'Neutral Zone' forum, change 'Shatner' to 'Hitlery' and repeat the process.

easy really!

In other words, no "Standard Screen" edition of the Bluray and HD-DVD because the pan and scan would be so extreme.

To the best of my knowledge no films are being released in pan-and-scan in the HD formats. In fact I'm still trying to find out if the HD release of Casablanca might actually be letterboxed, which won't make me happy.

I agree that the whole idea of pan-and-scan was ill-conceived from the start. I refuse to buy films that are "full screen" unless, of course, they were produced in that format.

Cheers

It is pillarboxed -- that is, black bars on the sides just like Star Trek Season One on HD-DVD:

'Casablanca' is presented in 1080p/VC-1 video and appropriately pillarboxed to the film's original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.33:1.

And I agree that no self-respecting film lover should tolerate "fool screen" for widescreen movies and TV shows.

Cinarama ?
I don't think so, no Cinarama exquipment is around anymore.
CinamaScope is more likly.
