Rugby World Cup 2015

The Wallabies needed to be at their absolute best (plus have a fair share of luck) to beat the All Blacks and unfortunately they weren't. The All Blacks on the other hand were immense, as they have been since they crawled out of the shadow of the disaster that was RWC2007. You can't say they are not the best team in the world and to be World Champions is what they deserve.

Going into the game I believed the Wallabies could win. Had that belief shaken on half time, and shattered 2 minutes into the second half. A fairly generous yellow card and 14 points later with 4 points in it that belief poked its head back out. However, the class of the ABs and Carter pushed the score to 7 and then 10. Then they just weathered the storm as the Wallabies repeatedly tried to get back within sight of victory. The game was over before Mitchell dropped that pass. The Wallabies got close, but the ABs sent a reminder to them and the rest of the rugby world that there is still a significant gulf between them and everyone else.

Feel pretty drained after that game. The result is what I expect, but not what I hoped for. However, a year ago I was far from convinced that the Wallabies would make it out of their pool. I wasn't convinced we had the right coach and was concerned about some of his selections that pointed towards the future. In fact I wasn't all that sure 7 weeks ago before the first ball of the tournament was kicked that this wasn't going to be a repeat of 1995 and 2007. Have to admit I was wrong. Cheika was the right man for the job and more often than not his selections have been the right choices.

As much as I am disappointed in the loss, I'm also very proud of the team. To come from where they were mid-2014 and to end 2015 ranked 2nd in the world and runners up in the RWC is pretty amazing. The final might not have been their best performance of the year, but they gave it their all and you can't ask for much more than that.

So congratulations to the New Zealand All Blacks on being the Rugby World Cup 2015 champions. You were the best team and more than deserve the title. Hopefully we'll see you again in four years in the final at Tokyo where hopefully we'll join you as 3 times winners of Bill.

Can't argue with any of that, really.

Needless to say I'm very disappointed with the result but there's no shame whatever in losing to such a ridiculously good side. At their best NZ seem to do everything so much faster and with so much more precision than any other side. Their skills are unreal, they rarely make mistakes and they invariably punish even the slightest error by their opponents. Hansen has somehow taken them to another level and it wouldn't surprise me to see them surpass that level again next year. Congrats to them - worthy winners indeed.

I'm genuinely proud of our lot. The Beale text crap last year and the pathetic reaction to it from almost every party involved was shameful and the side was little more than an embarrassing rabble. From that to World Cup finalists in 12 months is pretty impressive stuff. Cheika has surely erased any doubts about his ability and suitability. Hopefully this is just the beginning; I'm liking being able to be proud of the Wallabies again.

Oh, well. Four years until the next one. It should be great. :bolian:
