Rugby Fans?

Any rugby fans on Trekbbs outta curiousity?

I've been a fan of Rugby since 2005, when I was at university. I didn't play for the team, as I was a senior trying to graduate at the time. I've played a couple games with a local rugby club usually as a flyhalf.

I've had the bad luck of being deployed during the last Rugby World Cup and having to follow the score on the internet. Hopefully in 2011 I won't be deployed and can watch once more. I was happy I won a case of beer from my uncle betting on the results of the champion (South Africa). My uncle was betting on England the whole time (he's from Southhampton, that's to be expected).

Dingo the rugby fan...

I visited England for a week a couple years ago and caught a couple rugby games on TV at a bar. It looks pretty cool but I don't understand the rules and they don't really show it much in the US.

If I ever got back that way I'd love to see a game.

Rugby is by far my favourite sport to play and watch.

When I was in primary school I was really into soccer since all my friends played it and had no interest in rugby. I got into it by accident. When I was in Year 6 back in 1995 I was roped into going to a rugby camp with one of my friends and then when it came to choosing a winter sport I was pressured into joining the under 13s, which was the youngest team fielded by the school. I really didn't want to, I think only two or three others in my class signed up, our team was almost all Year 7s and the guys that did join weren't my closest friends. Add to that in the previous year the soccer team I was on won the local competition dropping only one game and drawing one against the team we would later defeat in the grand final...so I had good memories and friends I was leaving for a sport I knew nothing about and had little or no interest in. As it turned out I loved the game once I started playing. I played at prop from day one in year 6 to my last game in Year 12. Unfortunately I stopped playing after school, but have thought about joining a local club so to get some activity and because I really enjoy the game.

Wasn't really until 1997 when I started to watch the games in TV. Previously I can only remember watching one game and that was the Bledisloe in 1994 where Gregan made his famous tackle and I was holidaying in Fiji and I saw it via satellite on a hotel TV...Fijians are rugby crazy. So I basically started to get into rugby just as the Wallabies were on their way back to the top and enjoyed the highs of a world cup championship and beating a strong Bristish and Irish Lions touring side. Things have dropped off a bit since but I still watch and support my teams, the Brumbies (Super 12s/14s) and the Wallabies (plus Fiji in non-Australian games and in Sevens). In fact the first international I saw was Fiji vs France in Suva, Fiji back in 1998. I wouldn't see the Wallabies live until the world cup in 2003 when I watched them against Romania here in Brisbane. I try and see at least one Wallabies game a year (they are only up here once or twice a year) and when the Brumbies play the reds up here I go see them.

So to answer your question, I do find rugby enjoyable.

So you're a Super 14 fan too Rofeta? I'm personally a Natal Sharks fan for the Super 14.

As a question for my Trek fic, what team of the Super 14 would represent the Botany Bay/Sydney area? I ask because my original character is going to be a rugby fan.

^ I am a fan of the Super 14s, unfortunately I live 1,000 km from my favourite team, the Brumbies.

The NSW Waratahs are the Sydney based team in the Super 14s. If your character is a rugby fan from Sydney he might also be into the Shute Shield, which is a Sydney based lower grades comp. Not sure which club he would support if he lived in Botany Bay given I have never lived in Sydney and only have a passing interest in the comp depending on the players involved.

I'm predominantly an RWC, Super 14, and Six Nations fan. My team favorites are the Springboks and Wallabies for RWC, and the Natal Sharks for Super 14.

Big Bath fan, loved the game yesterday against Saries just so irritating they didn't get that bonus point try as it's leicester once again!

I thought Sarries were a disgrace to be honest, cynical and thuggish. Shame about not getting the fourth try but look at it this way, if we manage to beat Tigers away, the final is ours to lose.

true, so far it's 2:1 to them this season, only fair we win this one, and at least we get a week off in between. And finally official OB1 is back news!
